Lippert Genuine OEM Part 1-Year Warranty Lippert 216567 -- Motorized Coach Step Wet Bolt Replacement Kit

Stop the wobble and restore solid, safe step travel. This genuine Lippert wet bolt kit replaces one worn or corroded pivot bolt position on Lippert motorized Coach Step electric entry step assemblies -- the same hardware that connects your step arms and linkages and keeps them tracking smoothly every time you open the door.

Fix Sloppy, Wobbly, or Binding Coach Steps

Lippert motorized Coach Steps rely on a series of pivot bolts -- called wet bolts -- at every arm joint and linkage connection in the step mechanism. Each wet bolt position uses a hex head shoulder bolt, a bronze bushing, a washer, and an oval cone nut working together to create a smooth, low-friction pivot point that holds the step arms in precise alignment through thousands of deployment cycles.

When the bronze bushing wears down, the bolt corrodes, or the hardware loosens, you will notice side-to-side slop in the step arm, grinding or clicking during extension and retraction, or a step that binds and strains the motor. Left unaddressed, worn pivot hardware accelerates wear on the step arm linkages, frame, and drive assembly. Replacing the wet bolt hardware at the affected position is the correct fix -- and this kit gives you everything needed to do it right with genuine Lippert components.

Complete Hardware Set

One kit covers one wet bolt position. Includes all four components: hex head shoulder bolt, bronze bushing, flat washer, and oval cone nut.

Bronze Bushing Construction

The bronze bushing provides a self-lubricating bearing surface at the pivot point, reducing metal-on-metal wear and allowing smooth arm rotation.

Genuine Lippert OEM Part

Sourced directly from Lippert as part number 216567. Correct fit and material spec for Coach Step assemblies -- no fabrication or modification required.

1-Year Warranty

Backed by Lippert's standard 1-year limited warranty on replacement components when installed per Lippert service specifications.

What is a Wet Bolt and Why Does It Wear?

A wet bolt is a shoulder bolt designed to serve as a pivot axle through stacked arm linkages. The term "wet" refers to the design intent that the bolt and bushing should be kept lightly lubricated -- a thin film of grease on the bushing face reduces wear dramatically. On Coach Step assemblies, there are multiple wet bolt positions along the scissor-style arm linkage. Each one sees repetitive rotational load every time the steps extend or retract.

Road grime, water intrusion, and lack of periodic lubrication are the primary causes of premature wet bolt wear. The bronze bushing gradually loses material, creating slop in the joint. Once the bushing is gone, the bolt shank contacts the arm bracket directly, causing accelerated wear on both parts. Replacing the wet bolt kit early -- as soon as wobble is detected -- prevents more expensive linkage or motor damage.

Kit Contents -- What's Included

  • 1x Hex head shoulder bolt
  • 1x Bronze bushing
  • 1x Flat washer
  • 1x Oval cone nut

One kit repairs one wet bolt position. If multiple pivot positions are worn, order one kit per position.

Maintenance Tip -- Extend the Life of Your New Hardware

After installation, apply a light coat of white lithium grease or marine-grade grease to the bronze bushing and bolt shank before assembly. Re-grease all step pivot points at least once per season or every 6 months for full-time RV use. This single maintenance step is the most effective way to prevent repeat wet bolt wear.

Diagnosing a Worn Wet Bolt

Before ordering, confirm which pivot position is causing the issue. Common symptoms of a worn wet bolt include:

  • Visible side-to-side movement at a step arm joint when you push the step laterally by hand
  • A clicking, clunking, or grinding noise during step extension or retraction
  • The step arm visibly dropping or misaligning on one side during travel
  • Increased motor strain -- the step runs slower than normal or does not fully extend
  • A cracked or missing oval cone nut at a pivot location

Inspect all pivot positions systematically. Lippert Coach Step arms typically have four to six wet bolt positions depending on the step model and number of steps. Replace all visibly worn positions at the same service interval to avoid a repeat teardown.

Ordering the Right Quantity

This listing is for a single wet bolt position kit (one bolt, one bushing, one washer, one nut). A typical Coach Step arm service involving all pivot positions on a two-step assembly may require four to six kits. Count your worn positions before ordering so you can complete the repair in one visit.

Installation Notes

  • Disconnect shore power and switch the step to manual mode before beginning any step arm disassembly
  • Support the step arm during bolt removal to prevent it from falling and stressing the motor linkage
  • Slide the bronze bushing into the arm bracket bore before installing the shoulder bolt
  • The oval cone nut seats into a recessed pocket on the bracket face -- ensure it is fully seated before torquing
  • Do not overtighten the shoulder bolt; it should clamp the stack snugly while still allowing free rotation of the bushing

Important Information

  • This kit repairs ONE wet bolt position. Inspect all pivot points and order one kit per worn position before beginning the repair.
  • Designed specifically for Lippert motorized Coach Step assemblies. Verify your step brand and model before ordering -- this hardware is not universal.
  • Always disconnect shore power and place the step in manual mode before disassembling any step arm components.
  • Do not overtighten the shoulder bolt. The pivot must remain free to rotate after assembly -- over-clamping will bind the linkage and accelerate wear.
  • Grease is not included. Apply white lithium or marine-grade grease to the bushing at installation and re-grease all pivot points seasonally.
  • Failure to replace worn wet bolt hardware promptly can result in damage to step arm linkages, the drive motor, and the step mounting bracket -- more costly repairs that could have been avoided.
