MB Sturgis Type 1 ACME x 1/4" Male Inverted Flare 450,000 BTU/hr Rated 100575-20-MBS -- 20" Propane Pigtail Hose with Back Check Valve

A direct tank-to-regulator connection built specifically for RV dual-tank setups. The integrated back check valve prevents dangerous backflow from the regulator side when you swap or disconnect a tank, keeping your system safe during changeovers.

Reliable Propane Pigtail for RV Dual-Tank Systems

The MB Sturgis 100575-20-MBS is a 20-inch flexible propane pigtail hose designed to connect a standard DOT propane cylinder to a two-stage or automatic changeover regulator. One end uses a Type 1 (ACME) connection that threads directly onto standard RV propane tanks -- no extra adapters needed. The regulator end uses a 1/4" male inverted flare fitting, the standard thread found on most RV two-stage regulators and changeover manifolds.

The built-in back check valve at the tank end is what sets this hose apart from a basic pigtail. When one tank runs empty and you disconnect it, the check valve automatically stops gas from flowing backward out of the regulator side, preventing waste and reducing the risk of an accidental release. This feature is especially useful in dual-tank automatic changeover systems where one side may remain pressurized while you service the other.

Type 1 ACME Tank Fitting

Threads onto all standard RV and DOT propane cylinders with a Type 1 (ACME) valve -- no adapter required.

Built-In Back Check Valve

Prevents hazardous backflow from the regulator when the tank is disconnected or runs empty.

1/4" Male Inverted Flare Output

Standard regulator-side fitting compatible with most RV two-stage regulators and automatic changeover valves.

450,000 BTU/hr Capacity

Rated well above typical RV appliance loads -- adequate for full-timer rigs running furnace, range, water heater, and refrigerator simultaneously.

Who Needs This Pigtail?

This hose is the correct choice when you need to replace a worn, kinked, or leaking pigtail on a dual-tank propane setup -- the most common configuration on travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A motorhomes. It is also the right pick when upgrading a single-tank system to a dual-tank automatic changeover arrangement, since the back check valve is required for safe dual-tank operation.

At 20 inches, the hose gives enough slack to connect a horizontally mounted tank to a regulator mounted on the A-frame tongue or in a propane compartment without stressing the fittings. If your existing pigtail is shorter and you are experiencing fitting stress or cracking near the connections, the 20-inch length is typically the correct upgrade.

Back Check Valve -- Why It Matters

In a dual-tank system, both tanks feed a single regulator through separate pigtails. Without a back check valve, disconnecting one tank while the system is pressurized allows gas to escape backward through the open port. The integrated back check valve in the 100575-20-MBS closes automatically when the tank is removed, isolating the regulator from that port and keeping the system sealed. This is not just a convenience feature -- it is a safety requirement in properly configured dual-tank RV systems.

Fitting Identification Guide

  • Type 1 (ACME): The tank end -- a large, left-hand-thread coupling that tightens by turning counterclockwise. Fits all standard RV propane cylinders (POL-to-Type-1 adapters are NOT required).
  • 1/4" Male Inverted Flare (MIF): The regulator end -- a straight male fitting that threads into the female inverted flare inlet on most RV regulators and changeover valves. Right-hand thread, tightens clockwise.

Compatibility Check Before You Order

Confirm your regulator uses a 1/4" female inverted flare inlet before ordering. Some older regulators use a 9/16" inverted flare or a POL inlet -- those are NOT compatible with this pigtail without an adapter. When in doubt, measure the inlet port diameter on your regulator or check the regulator's part number.

Installation and Maintenance Tips

  • Hand-tighten the Type 1 ACME fitting first, then snug with a wrench -- do not overtighten; the ACME seal is a soft seat that can be damaged by over-torquing.
  • Use a small amount of soapy water or approved leak-detection fluid on all connections after installation and after any reconnection -- bubbles indicate a leak.
  • Inspect the hose annually for cracks, abrasion, or kinking, especially where it flexes near the fittings. Replace immediately if damage is found.
  • Do not allow the hose to contact sharp edges, exhaust components, or surfaces that may chafe the jacket.
  • Store coiled loosely -- tight coiling accelerates jacket cracking at low temperatures.

Important Safety Information

  • This hose is rated for LP (liquid petroleum / propane) gas service only. Do NOT use with natural gas, compressed air, or other gases.
  • The back check valve prevents backflow but is NOT a full shutoff valve. Always close the tank valve when the RV is in transit or when appliances are not in use.
  • Inspect all propane connections with a leak-detection solution after every installation or reconnection. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Replace this hose immediately if it shows any sign of cracking, brittleness, kinking, or physical damage to the jacket or fittings.
  • Propane work must comply with NFPA 58 and applicable local codes. If you are unsure about your installation, consult a certified LP gas technician.
  • Do not exceed the rated flow capacity of 450,000 BTU/hr.
