MB Sturgis Type 1 LP Hose 200,000 BTU/hr MB Sturgis 100473-15-MBS -- 15" Flexible Propane Pigtail with 1/4" MPT

Connect a propane pressure regulator with a 1/4" FNPT inlet directly to a standard POL propane tank using this MB Sturgis Type 1 flexible pigtail. Built-in thermal shutoff and internal backcheck valve add a critical layer of safety, while the high-flow Type 1 design delivers up to 200,000 BTU per hour -- enough capacity to prevent nuisance shutdowns even when demand is high or tank levels are low.

High-Flow, Safety-Equipped Propane Pigtail for RV and Travel Trailer Use

The MB Sturgis 100473-15-MBS is a 15-inch flexible propane pigtail designed to bridge the gap between a POL-style propane cylinder and a downstream regulator with a 1/4" female NPT inlet port. The dark green braided hose is flexible enough to route around awkward tank placements -- ideal for travel trailers and fifth wheels where dual tanks sit on opposite sides of the tongue, and a rigid connection would be impractical.

As a Type 1 hose assembly, it is rated for significantly higher flow than standard excess-flow pigtails, reducing the chance of the excess-flow valve tripping during high-demand appliance use such as running a furnace, water heater, and range simultaneously.

Type 1 High-Flow Design

Rated to deliver up to 200,000 BTU per hour, preventing nuisance shutoffs when multiple appliances draw LP simultaneously.

Internal Backcheck Valve

Prevents backflow of gas if the hose is disconnected under pressure, protecting both you and the regulator from exposure.

Thermal Shutoff

Heat-sensitive element closes the gas path automatically in fire or extreme heat conditions -- a built-in safety measure for campsite emergencies.

15" Flexible Length

Enough reach to accommodate off-center tank placements or side-by-side dual-tank setups without straining the connection.

How It Connects

The tank end of the pigtail uses a standard POL left-hand thread fitting that threads directly into the service valve on most standard 20 lb, 30 lb, and larger ACME-valved cylinders when used with an appropriate POL adapter. The regulator end terminates in a 1/4" Male Pipe Thread (MPT) that mates with any regulator or manifold equipped with a 1/4" FNPT inlet port. No additional adapters are required for this common configuration.

Ideal for dual-tank travel trailer setups: When your LP cylinders are mounted on opposite sides of the tongue or A-frame, a flexible pigtail like this allows the regulator to sit centrally or on one side while each tank connects independently via its own pigtail -- a cleaner and safer arrangement than rigid copper tubing.

Type 1 vs. Standard Pigtail -- Why It Matters

Standard propane pigtails are often classified at lower BTU thresholds. When multiple appliances run at once -- furnace igniting, water heater on, range burner lit -- a low-rated pigtail can trigger its excess-flow valve and starve the system. The Type 1 rating on this MB Sturgis hose means the excess-flow threshold is set high enough to handle realistic combined RV appliance loads without nuisance shutoffs.

For LP gas use only. This pigtail is not rated or approved for natural gas, compressed air, or any other gas service. Do not use with appliances or systems outside of liquid propane (LP) applications.

Safety Features in Detail

  • Thermal shutoff: The internal heat-sensitive element activates and closes the gas path when ambient or flame temperature reaches a dangerous threshold, reducing fire risk at the tank connection.
  • Internal backcheck: Prevents reverse gas flow through the hose if the regulator is removed while the tank valve is open, protecting against uncontrolled gas release.
  • Type 1 excess-flow protection: Like all Type 1 hose assemblies, this pigtail incorporates excess-flow protection that closes if a downstream rupture or large leak creates abnormally high flow.
Installation tips:
  • Always use two wrenches when connecting pipe thread fittings -- one to hold the regulator body, one to tighten the pigtail -- to avoid torquing the regulator inlet.
  • Apply thread sealant rated for LP gas (such as yellow PTFE tape) to the 1/4" MPT threads before installation.
  • After connecting, check for leaks with soapy water or a propane-safe leak detector before lighting any appliances.
  • Inspect the hose annually for cracks, abrasion, or kinking. Replace immediately if damage is found.
  • Do not route the pigtail where it contacts sharp edges or hot surfaces.

Important Safety Information
  • For LP (liquid propane) gas use ONLY. Do not use with natural gas, compressed air, or any other medium.
  • The thermal shutoff and backcheck valve are safety devices -- do not attempt to bypass, modify, or override them.
  • Always leak-test with soapy water or a propane-safe detector after every connection. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Operating temperature limits: -40 deg F minimum, 140 deg F maximum. Do not expose to temperatures outside this range.
  • Inspect for cracks, kinks, cuts, or abrasion before every use. A damaged hose must be replaced before the propane system is used.
  • Turn off the tank valve before disconnecting the pigtail.
  • This hose is not a substitute for a pressure regulator. A properly rated two-stage or single-stage regulator must be used downstream.
  • Installation should comply with NFPA 58 and all applicable local codes for LP gas systems in recreational vehicles.
