CarCover 5-Ply Top / 3-Ply Sides Fits 35-38 ft Travel Trailers Gold Shield 5L Travel Trailer Cover -- Part 5RV-TT-3538

Built for long-term outdoor storage, the CarCover Gold Shield 5L delivers heavy-duty, all-season protection for travel trailers between 35 and 38 feet long. Its layered fabric system blocks UV rays, rain, snow, and debris while staying breathable enough to prevent the mildew and rot that trapped moisture causes. Zippered access panels, reinforced ladder and gutter protection, and adjustable buckle straps make this a practical, set-and-forget cover for full-season storage.

All-Season Protection for 35-38 ft Travel Trailers

The Gold Shield 5L is CarCover's premium multi-layer RV cover, engineered specifically for travel trailers in the 35-to-38-foot range. The cover measures 38.5 ft long x 8.75 ft wide x 9.17 ft tall and weighs 25 lbs, making it a substantial, full-envelope cover rather than a lightweight tarp substitute.

The five-layer top panel combines UV-resistant polypropylene outer layers with a micro-porous film core that allows water vapor to escape while preventing liquid water from penetrating. The three-layer side panels add structured protection against crosswinds, side-driven rain, and airborne debris. Both panels feature reinforced double stitching at high-stress seams.

5-Ply Top Panel

UV-resistant polypropylene outer layers bonded to a micro-porous breathable film core. Blocks sun, rain, hail, and snow while venting internal moisture.

3-Ply Side Panels

Layered side fabric resists crosswind-driven rain and debris. Extended top panel drapes down the sides for additional runoff coverage.

Zippered Access Panels

Multiple zippered entry points let you access doors, utility compartments, and hookups without removing the entire cover.

Fits Up to 3 AC Units

Pre-formed vented accommodation for up to three rooftop air conditioner units so the cover lays flat without stressing AC shrouds.

Breathable Fabric -- Why It Matters for Long-Term Storage

Sealing a travel trailer under a non-breathable cover traps condensation, accelerating mildew growth on roof seams, sidewall graphics, and interior walls. The Gold Shield 5L's micro-porous film layer allows water vapor to escape continuously while maintaining a water-resistant barrier against precipitation. This makes it suitable for extended storage periods -- not just weekend use.

Moisture Management: The breathable micro-porous core vents trapped humidity to prevent mildew, rot, and musty odors inside the trailer during storage.

Secure Fit and Wind Resistance

Wind is the leading cause of cover damage and trailer paint abrasion. The Gold Shield 5L addresses this with:

  • Adjustable buckle straps with weighted ends to remove slack and resist billowing
  • Elasticized front and rear hems that grip the trailer corners and reduce shifting
  • Reinforced double-stitched seams at all high-tension points

The combination of elasticized hems and buckle straps keeps the cover from riding up or flapping during wind events, which also prevents the chafing and fabric fatigue that shortens cover life.

Protection Details

Beyond weather, the Gold Shield 5L guards against the slow, cumulative damage that degrades trailer exteriors during storage:

  • Blocks over 98% of dirt and dust accumulation
  • Shields against tree sap, bird droppings, and oxidation-causing UV exposure
  • Sun-reflective fabric reduces interior heat buildup, protecting upholstery, dashboards, and vinyl flooring from heat cracking
  • Ladder cap prevents fabric tears where the cover contacts sharp ladder rungs
  • Gutter covers protect against tearing at roof gutter edges
  • Reflective panels improve low-light visibility in driveways and storage lots
Reflective Strips: Sewn-in reflective panels make the covered trailer visible at night in storage yards, driveways, and roadside areas -- a practical safety feature.

Installation and Storage

The cover is designed for no-tools installation. The weighted buckle straps drop down along the sides and fasten underneath without requiring ladders for every strap. At 25 lbs, two people can install and remove this cover efficiently. When not in use, it folds into the included storage bag.

Installation Tip: Start by draping the cover from front to back over the roofline, then work the elasticized hems over the front and rear corners before securing the buckle straps. This prevents the cover from shifting during strap tensioning.

Important Information
  • This cover is sized for travel trailers with an overall length of 35 to 38 feet. Measure your trailer's total exterior length (including hitch and rear bumper) before ordering. Cover dimensions are 38.5 ft x 8.75 ft x 9.17 ft.
  • This is a storage cover only -- do not tow or drive with the cover installed on the trailer.
  • The cover is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. In sustained heavy precipitation, some moisture infiltration at seams is possible, particularly without proper tensioning.
  • Inspect roof-mounted accessories (vents, antennas, solar panels) before installation. Sharp or protruding hardware can puncture the cover fabric. Use the included patch kit for minor repairs.
  • Ensure the trailer exterior is clean and dry before covering for extended storage periods to avoid trapping contaminants against the finish.
  • Periodically check and re-tension buckle straps during extended storage -- straps can loosen as the fabric settles.
  • Store the cover in the included bag when not in use. Exposure to prolonged UV without being on the trailer will degrade the cover over time.
Protecting your RV with a quality cover is essential for maintaining its value and longevity. RVs are significant investments that are often exposed to harsh weather conditions, making them susceptible to damage from corrosion, mold, and UV rays. Unlike standard vehicles, RVs serve as mobile homes for many, and a cover can provide added insulation and privacy, enhancing your comfort while protecting against the elements. By investing in an RV cover, you reduce wear and tear, ensuring that your RV remains in excellent condition for years to come.

How To Measure Your Travel Trailer:

Length: Measure the longest two points from the front to the rear of the trailer, including bumpers, spare tire, and ladder, but excluding the hitch and tongue of the trailer.

Height: Measure the trailer sidewalls from the very top of the roofline down to the outside frame. Exclude ground clearance, roof-mounted accessories, vents, and A/C units.

How to Install Your Travel Trailer Cover:

1. Identify the front of the cover by locating the "Front" tag on the interior.
2.
Lay the cover lengthwise on the ground, inside out, with the exterior facing up.
3.
Fold the sides toward the center and roll the cover from the rear, leaving the front end loose.
4.
Position the rolled cover at the rear of the RV near the ladder.
5.
Loosen the roll slightly, then climb the ladder while holding the front end.
6.
Pull the cover onto the roof gradually until you have a strip covering the entire roof.
7.
Starting at the front, unfold the cover side to side, letting it drape down the sides as you move to the rear.
8.
Ensure the corner opposite the ladder is positioned under the cover’s corner.
9.
Climb down while bringing the cover down with you, then adjust the cover as needed.

Removal:

1. Undo all straps and zippers on the cover.
2.
Lift the front of the cover to the top of the RV.
3.
Pull the cover down from the rear.

For Cleaning:

Proper care of your RV cover is essential for maintaining its performance and water resistance. Contaminants like dirt and grease can damage the cover, so regular washing is recommended for long-lasting protection.

You can wash the cover by hand or in a washing machine. For hand washing, install the cover on your RV, rinse it with a hose, then use a cloth and multi-purpose cleaner to scrub. Rinse again and either towel dry or let it air dry.

For machine washing, use the largest machine available, set it to gentle mode, and wash with mild powder detergent in cold water—avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Rinse the cover twice to remove all detergent, and always air dry.
