CamcoPart No. 25013Universal FitCamco Universal Vent Installation Kit with Butyl Tape

One kit for nearly every RV vent job. Whether you are sealing a new roof vent, reseating a plumbing stack, installing a side-mount vent, or fitting a refrigerator exhaust vent, this Camco kit gives you the butyl tape and hardware you need to get a leak-free result the first time.

Stop Chasing Leaks -- Do the Job Right with the Right Materials

RV roof and vent leaks are among the most common -- and most damaging -- maintenance issues owners face. The leading cause is improper sealing during original installation or a failed re-seal after a repair. Butyl tape is the industry-preferred bedding material for RV vents because it remains pliable over a wide temperature range, conforms to irregular surfaces, and does not crack or shrink like dried caulk.

Camco's 25013 kit packages everything a DIY installer or service tech needs in a single box: a full roll of butyl tape sized for vent work, plus the mounting hardware and instructions to complete the installation. No hunting for compatible screws or making a second trip to the store.

Broad Application Coverage

Designed for roof vents, side-mount vents, plumbing vent stacks, and refrigerator exhaust vents -- one kit handles the most common RV vent types.

8 ft Butyl Tape Roll Included

The 8 ft x 3/4 in roll provides enough tape to bed a standard vent opening with material left over for extra coverage at corners and seams.

Stays Flexible Year-Round

Butyl tape remains pliable in hot summer sun and cold winter temps, maintaining an airtight, watertight seal without cracking or pulling away.

Hardware and Instructions Included

Mounting hardware and step-by-step instructions are included so you have everything needed for a complete, code-compliant installation out of the box.

Where This Kit Gets Used

This kit is intended for the full range of RV vent types commonly found on Class A, Class B, Class C motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and toy haulers:

  • Roof vents and vent fans -- Maxxair, Fan-Tastic Vent, Hengs, Camco, and most 14 x 14 in standard roof vent openings
  • Side-mount vents -- furnace exhaust, hot water heater access, and generator exhaust vents mounted in the sidewall
  • Plumbing vent stacks -- ABS or PVC roof pipe penetrations requiring a weathertight seal at the roof membrane
  • Refrigerator vents -- upper and lower roof and sidewall vent covers on two-way and three-way RV refrigerators
Why Butyl Tape vs. Lap Sealant? Butyl tape is applied before you set the vent in place, creating a compression seal under the flange. Lap sealant is applied around the perimeter after mounting. Used together -- tape beneath the flange, lap sealant around the edge -- you get a belt-and-suspenders seal that is standard practice in the RV industry.

Installation Overview

While specific steps vary by vent type, the general process for a roof vent replacement is:

  • Remove the old vent and scraper away any dried caulk or old tape from the roof surface
  • Clean the mounting surface with a wax-free cleaner and let it dry fully
  • Run the butyl tape along the underside of the new vent flange, overlapping at corners
  • Set the vent in position, press firmly to compress the tape, and fasten with the included hardware
  • Apply a compatible lap sealant (such as Dicor self-leveling or non-sag) around the entire perimeter
  • Allow sealant to cure before exposing to rain or washing
Maintenance Tip: Inspect all vent seals at least once per year, ideally before and after the camping season. Look for cracks, gaps, or tape pulling away from the flange. Early resealing prevents water intrusion that can lead to delamination and structural rot.
Compatible Roof Surfaces: This kit is suitable for use on EPDM rubber roofs, TPO roofs, and fiberglass roof panels. Butyl tape bonds well to all three. For rubber roofs, always use a rubber-roof-compatible lap sealant as a final bead -- do not use petroleum-based products over EPDM membrane.
Pair With: For a complete roof vent job, consider adding Dicor self-leveling lap sealant for rubber roofs or Dicor non-sag lap sealant for vertical and sidewall applications. A Camco roof vent cover or vent fan lid may also be needed if the existing cover is cracked or faded.

Important Information
  • Butyl tape is a bedding material, not a standalone sealant. Always finish the installation with a compatible lap sealant applied around the vent flange perimeter.
  • Do not use petroleum-based sealants over EPDM rubber roofing membrane -- use only rubber-roof-compatible products for the final bead.
  • Surface must be clean, dry, and free of wax, grease, and old sealant residue before applying butyl tape or the seal may not bond properly.
  • This kit is for installation and sealing use only -- it does not include a vent lid, vent frame, or fan mechanism. Purchase the vent assembly separately.
  • 8 ft of tape is sufficient for most standard vent openings; measure your vent perimeter before starting to confirm adequate coverage for larger or oddly shaped flanges.
  • 90-day limited manufacturer warranty covers material defects. Warranty does not cover improper installation or damage from incompatible sealants.
