Lippert 2,200 Lb. Axle Rating Includes Bearing Cone Kit Lippert 814205 Idler Hub with Bearing Cone Kit -- 5 on 4.5 in. Bolt Pattern

A direct-replacement idler hub for light trailer and RV axles rated at 2,200 lbs. The 814205 ships with everything you need to complete the bearing service in one box -- no hunting for separate inner and outer cones, cups, seal, or cotter pin.

Complete Hub Replacement, Ready to Install

The Lippert 814205 is a solid iron idler hub designed for trailer axles in the 2,200 lb. capacity range. It accepts 13 to 15 inch wheels on the standard 5 on 4.5 inch (5x114.3 mm) bolt pattern -- one of the most common patterns found on lightweight travel trailers, utility trailers, and boat trailers built on Lippert and comparable axle platforms.

Unlike bare-hub replacements that require sourcing bearings separately, this kit bundles the hub with a matched bearing cone set so you get the right inner and outer cones, cups, seal, and hardware in a single order. That matters when you are doing a roadside swap or a scheduled axle service and cannot afford a second trip to the parts counter.

Solid Iron Construction

Cast iron hub body resists the heat and shock loads generated during trailer braking and cornering, and holds up to repeated bearing service intervals without deformation at the bore.

Kit Includes All Bearing Hardware

One inner bearing cone, one outer bearing cone, matching inner and outer bearing cups, one double-lip grease seal, and one cotter pin are packed with the hub -- nothing extra to source.

5 on 4.5 in. Bolt Pattern

Five lug studs on a 4.5 inch (114.3 mm) bolt circle. Matches factory wheel fitment on a wide range of lightweight RV and utility trailer axles without adapters or re-drilling.

Wide Wheel Compatibility

Sized for 13 to 15 inch wheels. If you are upgrading from a 13 inch spare to a 15 inch road tire, or running the stock 14 inch, this hub clears the center bore properly across that range.

What Is an Idler Hub?

An idler hub (sometimes called a free-rolling hub) is used on non-braked trailer axle positions. It houses the wheel bearings and mounts directly to the spindle without the drum, magnet wiring, or brake flange hardware found on a brake hub assembly. Idler hubs are standard on the front position of tandem axle trailers where only the rear axle is braked, and on all positions of very light single-axle trailers below the brake threshold.

If your trailer has electric brakes on every axle position, you need a brake hub, not this part. See the Lippert brake hub listings for those applications.

Full Bearing Kit Included

The 814205 kit contains: (1) inner bearing cone, (1) outer bearing cone, (1) inner bearing cup, (1) outer bearing cup, (1) double-lip grease seal, and (1) cotter pin. Pack the cones with fresh wheel-bearing grease before assembly -- grease is not included.

Axle and Fitment Notes

This hub is engineered for axles rated at 2,200 lbs. It is a common replacement on Lippert-branded trailer axles and on OEM-equivalent axles built to the same spindle dimensions. The 1/2 inch lug studs and the 6.5 inch hub flange diameter are the key physical identifiers to verify against your existing hub before ordering.

How to Confirm Fitment
  • Measure your current bolt pattern: 5 studs on a 4.5 inch circle (center to center across opposing studs is approximately 4.5 in.).
  • Verify hub flange diameter: 6.5 inches across the flat face of the flange.
  • Confirm your axle spindle is sized for a 2,200 lb. rated hub -- check the axle tube tag or stamp.
  • Confirm your wheel center bore accepts the 6.5 in. flange and that the wheel is 13, 14, or 15 inches in diameter.
  • Confirm this is a non-braked (idler) position -- no brake drum is included or needed.

Installation Overview

This is a bolt-on replacement assuming the spindle and wheel are otherwise in serviceable condition. Remove the existing hub, clean the spindle, inspect for scoring or pitting, then install the new inner cup and cone, slide the hub onto the spindle, install the outer cup and cone, set bearing preload with the spindle nut, install the cotter pin through the castle nut and spindle slot, and fit the grease cap. Torque specifications follow the axle manufacturer's service manual for the spindle nut -- typically snug plus a quarter-turn back to the nearest cotter pin slot.

Maintenance Tip

Re-pack wheel bearings with NLGI Grade 2 wheel-bearing grease at least once per season or every 10,000 to 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Inspect the double-lip grease seal any time the hub is removed; replace the seal if the lip shows cuts, hardening, or deformation. A failed seal contaminates bearings quickly at highway speed.

Idler Hub Only -- Brake Components Not Included

This listing is for a non-braked idler hub. No brake drum, backing plate, magnets, or wiring are included or compatible. Do not use this hub on a braked axle position.

Important Information
  • Maximum axle rating is 2,200 lbs. Do not install on axles rated above this capacity.
  • This is an idler (non-braked) hub. It is not compatible with brake drum hardware and must not be used on braked axle positions.
  • Verify your bolt pattern (5 on 4.5 in.) and hub flange diameter (6.5 in.) before ordering -- these dimensions must match your existing hub and wheel.
  • Grease is not included. Pack both bearing cones with fresh NLGI Grade 2 wheel-bearing grease before installation.
  • Inspect the spindle for wear, scoring, or out-of-round before installing a new hub. A damaged spindle will destroy new bearings quickly.
  • Follow proper spindle nut torque and cotter pin procedures. An improperly adjusted bearing preload causes premature failure or wheel separation.
  • Replace the grease seal any time the hub is removed from the spindle -- reusing a compressed or deformed seal risks bearing contamination.
