This factory-correct repair kit -- part 146060 -- includes every internal component needed to rebuild the follow leg drive mechanism, from the bevel gears down to the shim washer. No sourcing individual parts separately; everything ships together in one kit.

Rebuild the Follow Leg -- Not the Whole Gear Assembly

On a Lippert Power Landing Gear system, the lead leg houses the motor and drives the system. The follow leg is the motorless leg on the opposite side -- it receives motion through a drive shaft and bevel gear arrangement. Over time, these gears strip, bushings wear, or pins shear, especially under heavy tongue loads or if the gear is run dry without lubrication.

Part 146060 targets exactly those failure points. The included 12T and 16T bevel gears restore proper gear mesh, the drive shaft and bushings replace the worn bearing surfaces, and the hardware pack covers the fasteners and retention components that hold it all together.

What Is the Follow Leg?

The follow leg is the leg of your Power Landing Gear that does not have a motor attached. On most 5th wheel and heavy travel trailer setups, the two landing gear legs work in tandem -- the lead leg (motor side) drives the follow leg via a cross shaft. If the follow leg's internal gears or drive components fail, the leg will spin freely, drop unevenly, or not extend and retract at all.

This kit is for the follow leg only. If the motor, gearbox housing, or lead leg internals are damaged, this kit will not address those components.

Tip: Before ordering, confirm which leg is faulty. The follow leg has no motor mounted to it. If you see the electric motor attached to the leg, that is the lead leg -- this kit does not apply.

Installation Note: When reassembling, apply a light coating of white lithium or gear grease to the bevel gear teeth and bushings before closing the gear housing. Dry operation is the most common cause of premature gear wear in Power Landing Gear follow legs.

Common Failure Symptoms This Kit Addresses

  • Follow leg spins or extends unevenly compared to the lead leg
  • Grinding or clicking noise from the motorless leg during operation
  • Leg extends in one direction only, or not at all
  • Visible stripped teeth on bevel gears inside the gear housing
  • Sheared drive pin or spiral pin causing loss of torque transfer
  • Excessive play or wobble in the follow leg shaft
Maintenance Tip: Inspect and re-grease your landing gear bevel gears and bushings at least once per season or every 50 cycles, whichever comes first. Catching wear early prevents a stripped gear from becoming a bent housing.
