External Mount Garnet 710-SS2 SeeLevel II 16" Sensor Board
Flexible external tank sensor for tall RV holding tanks. Mounts outside the tank – no drilling, no fouling, no false readings. Designed for tanks 7.5" to 18" tall, or up to 34" when double-stacked.

Overview

The Garnet 710-SS2 is a 16-inch external sensor board designed for the SeeLevel II tank monitoring system. Unlike traditional RV tank sensors that mount inside the tank and become fouled with debris, this sensor adheres to the outside of your plastic holding tank, using capacitive sensing technology to detect fluid levels through the tank wall.External MountNo Drilling16" Tall

This is the longest standard sensor in the SeeLevel lineup, specifically designed for taller tanks. It's ideal for tanks between 7.5" and 18" tall as a single sensor, and can be stacked with a second 710-SS2 for tanks up to 34" tall.

📊 Why External Sensors Are Better

Traditional internal sensors mount inside the tank where they contact waste, sewage, and debris. Over time, buildup on the probes causes inaccurate readings – a problem that gets worse over years of use.

SeeLevel external sensors mount on the outside of the tank and sense fluid levels through the tank wall using capacitive technology. Because they never contact the tank contents, they don't foul, corrode, or give false readings due to debris buildup.

The result: accurate, reliable readings for years without the maintenance headaches of traditional systems.

Key Features

  • External mount – adheres to outside of tank, no drilling required
  • 16 inches tall – designed for taller holding tanks
  • Trimmable – cut in 2" segments to fit tanks as short as 6"
  • Stackable – double-stack for tanks up to 34" tall
  • 0.44" resolution – multiple sensing segments for accurate readings
  • Flexible design – conforms to curved tank surfaces
  • 3M adhesive backing – industrial-strength 300LSE bonding
  • Conformal coating – circuit protection for durability
  • Simple 2-wire connection – connects to all SeeLevel II monitors
  • Programmable tabs – cut tabs to identify tank type (fresh/gray/black)

How It Works

The SeeLevel sensor uses capacitive sensing technology to detect the difference in dielectric properties between air and liquid inside the tank. The sensor has multiple "sensing pads" along its length – each segment detects whether liquid is present at that level.

When you press a button on the SeeLevel monitor, it queries the sensor and receives data from each sensing pad. The display then shows the tank level as a percentage (0-100%), giving you far more accurate readings than traditional 1/4-increment systems.

✅ Works With These SeeLevel Monitors

709 Series – All models (709-P3, 709-P4, 709-RVC, 709-BTP7, etc.)
714 Series – All models
709-N2K – NMEA 2000 compatible models
SeeLevel Soul – Factory-installed systems (up to 7 tanks)

Note: This sensor board is sold separately – monitor/display panel not included.

Tank Height Sizing Guide

The 710-SS2 is the best choice for taller tanks. Here's how to select the right sensor:

Sensor Model Length Resolution Single Tank Double-Stacked
710-AR2 9" 0.25" 3.5" - 11" Up to 19"
710-ES3 12" 0.33" 4.5" - 14" Up to 26"
710-SS2 (This) 16" 0.44" 7.5" - 18" Up to 34"

Choose the sensor with the most segments for your tank height for best resolution and accuracy.

Cutting the Sensor to Length

The 710-SS2 can be trimmed to fit shorter tanks:

  • Cut in 2" increments – each segment is 2" tall
  • Minimum length: 6" – do NOT cut shorter than 6"
  • Use sharp scissors – cut between the sensing pads
  • More segments = better resolution – keep as many as possible

⚠️ Do NOT Cut Shorter Than 6 Inches

The 710-SS2 requires a minimum of 3 sensing segments to function properly. Cutting the sensor shorter than 6" will result in the sensor not working. If your tank is shorter than 6", consider using the 710-AR2 (9") sensor which can be cut as short as 3".

Double-Stacking for Tall Tanks

For tanks taller than 18", two 710-SS2 sensors can be stacked vertically:

  • Maximum stacked height: Up to 34"
  • Gap between sensors: 1/16" to 1/8"
  • Bottom sensor: Cut the 2/GRY and 3/BLK tabs
  • Top sensor: Cut the 2/GRY, 3/BLK, and TOP tabs
  • Equal length recommended: Cut both sensors to approximately equal length

🚫 Do NOT Mix Sensor Types When Stacking

If you stack two sensors, they must be the same model. Do not mix a 710-SS2 with a 710-ES3 or 710-AR2. Each sensor type has different segment spacing and communication protocols.

Installation Overview

  1. Install display first – mount the SeeLevel monitor inside the RV
  2. Measure tank height – determine the "measurable space" (tank height minus 1/4" top and bottom gaps)
  3. Cut sensor to length – trim in 2" increments if needed (minimum 6")
  4. Program the sensor – cut the appropriate tabs to identify tank type
  5. Clean tank surface – remove all dust, grease, and residue
  6. Test before adhering – temporarily tape sensor in place and verify operation
  7. Permanently mount – peel backing and press firmly onto tank
  8. Wire to monitor – connect blue (signal) and black (ground) wires

🔧 Installation Tips

Position sensor 1/4" to 3/4" from tank top and bottom – this accounts for tank wall thickness and any bowing
Keep metal at least 1" away – metal near the sensor can affect readings
Route wires to the RIGHT – always route wires away from the sensor on the right side
Avoid air gaps – sensor must contact tank surface fully for accurate readings
Test before permanent adhesion – verify readings before you commit!

Accuracy & Resolution

The 710-SS2 provides readings in approximately ±8% increments (or better), depending on tank height and shape. This is a dramatic improvement over traditional systems that only show 1/4 increments (25%, 50%, 75%, Full).

Resolution: 0.44" (approximately 11mm) per sensing segment. The sensor has multiple sensing pads – the more pads that remain after cutting to fit your tank, the more accurate your readings.

⚠️ Plastic Tanks Only – NOT for Metal

SeeLevel sensors use capacitive technology to sense through plastic tank walls. They will NOT work with metal tanks. The vast majority of RV holding tanks are roto-cast plastic. If your tanks are stainless steel or aluminum, this system will not work.

Why Choose the 710-SS2?

The 710-SS2 is ideal when you have:

  • Tall tanks (14" - 18") – provides maximum segments for best resolution
  • Very tall tanks (18" - 34") – can be double-stacked
  • Varied tank heights – can be cut down to fit tanks as short as 6"

When to use a different sensor: If your tank is shorter than 14", the 710-ES3 (12") may provide better resolution because it has more segments per inch. For very short tanks under 5", use the 710-AR2 (9").
