Skip the service center. This factory-spec repair kit gives you everything needed to rebuild the drive components on the lead leg of your Lippert Power Landing Gear -- the leg that carries the motor. Replace worn or stripped gears, a damaged drive shaft, or failed bushings in a single job without hunting down individual parts.

Restore Your Lippert Landing Gear Without Replacing the Whole Assembly

Lippert Power Landing Gear is standard equipment on a wide range of fifth wheels and travel trailers. Over time, the drive shaft, bevel gears, and bushings inside the lead leg take the brunt of repeated extension and retraction cycles -- especially if the gear is operated dry, under load, or after an impact. Stripped bevel gear teeth and worn bushings are among the most common failures.

The 146059 kit targets the lead leg specifically -- that is the leg with the motor attached. The follow leg (no motor) uses different components and is not covered by this kit. Using the correct kit for the correct leg ensures proper gear mesh and alignment after reassembly.

Complete Hardware Set

Includes every consumable drive component: shaft, both bevel gears, bushings, E-clip, drive pin, spiral pin, and shim washer. One kit, one repair.

OEM Lippert Parts

Each component carries a Lippert part number (913-01, 908-00, 909-00, 910-00, and more), so you know you are installing factory-spec replacements -- not generic substitutes.

Lead Leg Specific

Designed for the motorized lead leg only. The 12T and 16T bevel gears in this kit are sized to match the motor-driven gear train -- not the follow leg configuration.

DIY Friendly

Straightforward repair that most RV owners can complete with basic hand tools. Lippert service manuals and how-to videos are widely available for this landing gear family.

What is the Lead Leg?

Lippert Power Landing Gear assemblies consist of two legs that work in tandem. The lead leg is the one with the 12V electric motor mounted to it. A drive shaft connects the lead leg to the follow leg, transferring torque so both legs extend and retract together. All of the primary drive components -- the bevel gears that transfer power from the motor, the drive shaft bushings, and the shaft itself -- live in the lead leg housing. This is the leg to repair when you experience gear slippage, stripped teeth, or unusual noise during operation.

Verify which leg needs repair before ordering. Look for the motor -- if your failed leg has a motor attached, this is the correct kit. If the failed leg has no motor, you need the follow leg repair kit instead.

Component Breakdown

Every part in the 146059 kit is an individually catalogued Lippert component. This matters for cross-referencing and for warranty purposes:

  • Lead Drive Shaft (913-01) -- the central shaft that runs through the lead leg housing and interfaces with both bevel gears
  • Drive Shaft Bushings x2 (908-00) -- support the drive shaft at both ends; worn bushings cause shaft wobble and accelerate gear wear
  • 12T Bevel Gear (909-00) -- the smaller bevel gear in the gear train; typically the first to show tooth wear
  • 16T Bevel Gear (910-00) -- the larger bevel gear; replace both gears together to ensure proper mesh
  • Shim Washer (907-00) -- sets the correct gear lash between bevel gears
  • E-Clip (919-00) -- retains the drive shaft in position
  • Drive Pin (920-00) -- locks the gear to the shaft
  • Spiral Pin (1020-08) -- roll pin used for final assembly of the shaft assembly
Replace both bevel gears together. Even if only one gear shows visible damage, the mating gear has experienced the same wear cycles. Installing a new gear against a worn gear shortens the life of the new part significantly.

Common Failure Symptoms This Kit Addresses

  • Motor runs but landing gear does not move or moves inconsistently
  • Grinding or clicking noise during extension or retraction
  • Visible stripped or chipped teeth on either bevel gear
  • Excessive play or wobble in the drive shaft
  • Landing gear operates out of sync between lead and follow legs
Maintenance tip: After reassembly, apply a light coat of white lithium grease or gear lubricant to the bevel gear teeth and drive shaft before closing the housing. Dry operation is the primary cause of premature gear wear in Lippert landing gear units.
Safety note: Always block the trailer and support the frame independently before disassembling any landing gear component. Never work under an unsupported trailer with landing gear as the sole support.

Important Information
  • This kit is for the lead leg only -- the leg that has the electric motor attached. Do not use for the follow leg.
  • Always support the trailer frame independently before disassembling landing gear components. Never rely on the landing gear as your only support during repair.
  • Retract and disconnect the landing gear motor from power before beginning any disassembly.
  • Replace both bevel gears (909-00 and 910-00) as a matched set -- mixing a new gear with a worn gear causes rapid re-failure.
  • Apply grease to gear teeth and drive shaft during reassembly. Dry operation is the leading cause of landing gear gear failure.
  • Verify your gear is a Lippert Power Landing Gear assembly before ordering. This kit does not fit manual crank or scissor-style landing gear systems.
