OEM soft start upgrade for Coleman Mach 45000, 47000 & 48000 series air conditioners and heat pumps. Reduces startup amperage by up to 75%. Exterior-mounted. 2-year limited warranty.
The Coleman Mach 1497-3601 Soft Start Control Kit is the factory OEM solution for bringing soft start technology to your existing Coleman Mach rooftop air conditioner or heat pump. By smoothly ramping the compressor up to full operating amperage — rather than demanding it all at once — the kit eliminates the hard startup surge that trips breakers, strains generators, and shortens compressor life.
A built-in continuous-learning algorithm monitors and adapts to changing load conditions every time the unit starts, fine-tuning electrical parameters for optimal performance under current ambient conditions. The result is quieter startups, lower motor heat, reduced vibration, and measurably longer air conditioner service life — all from a compact weatherproof enclosure that mounts on the exterior of the coach without altering the appearance of the AC unit itself.
Dramatically cuts inrush current at compressor startup, preventing breaker trips and reducing generator load
Self-optimizing algorithm adapts electrical parameters to varying load conditions with every startup cycle
Unibody ABS housing protects internal electronics across a wide range of weather and road conditions
Mounts on the AC exterior with included hardware — no appearance changes to the air conditioner required
This kit is designed exclusively for Coleman Mach 45000, 47000, and 48000 series air conditioners and heat pumps. It is not intended for other brands or Coleman Mach models outside these series. Before ordering, verify your unit's model number on the data plate located on the rooftop AC shroud. Compatible series prefixes: 450XX | 452XX | 470XX | 472XX | 480XX | 482XX Installation of this kit will not affect your existing Coleman Mach warranty coverage.
Complete Kit Contents: • (1) Soft Start Control Box • (1) Mounting Bracket • (4) #10-3/8 Screws • (4) #10-5/8 Self-Drilling Screws • (1) Split Bushing • (2) Wire Nuts • (5) Wire Ties • (1) Sealant All hardware needed for a complete exterior installation is included in the box. No additional mounting components are required.
General Installation Process: 1. Verify Compatibility: Confirm your Coleman Mach unit falls within the 450XX, 452XX, 470XX, 472XX, 480XX, or 482XX series 2. Disconnect Power: Turn off and disconnect electrical power to the air conditioner before beginning work 3. Mount the Bracket: Attach the included bracket to the exterior of the coach using the provided self-drilling screws 4. Secure the Control Box: Mount the soft start box onto the bracket using the #10-3/8 screws 5. Route Wiring: Feed the wiring through the split bushing into the AC unit's wiring compartment 6. Make Connections: Connect wires using included wire nuts and secure with wire ties per the included wiring diagram 7. Seal Penetrations: Apply included sealant around any exterior wall/roof penetrations to weatherproof the installation 8. Restore Power & Test: Turn power back on and run the AC to confirm smooth, surge-free startup
The 1497-3601 is especially valuable for RVers who run their air conditioner from a generator or shore power with limited capacity. Without a soft start, a Coleman Mach compressor can draw three to four times its running amperage at the moment of startup — enough to trip a breaker or overwhelm a smaller generator. With the 1497-3601 installed, startup current is reduced by up to 75%, making it practical to run your AC from a wider range of power sources including smaller portable generators and campground pedestals with limited amperage headroom.
Always verify your unit's full model number on the data plate before ordering. The model number is located on the rooftop AC shroud label.
