B&W Hitches Companion Series 5th Wheel Hitch B&W Hitches GNRC800 -- Companion 5th Wheel Hitch Center Section

The GNRC800 is the genuine B&W Companion center section -- the heart of the Companion 5th wheel hitch system. Whether you are replacing a worn or damaged center section, upgrading your existing Companion setup, or building a complete hitch on a new truck bed rail kit you already own, this is the OEM-quality assembly that B&W designs every other Companion component around. Sold as the center section only; compatible with B&W standard Companion rail kits sold separately.

Replace or Upgrade Your Companion Hitch Without Starting From Scratch

The B&W Companion is one of the most respected 5th wheel hitches in the North American towable RV market, and for good reason. Its sliding, self-lubricating head design reduces pin box stress, eliminates the need for a slider hitch in most short-bed truck applications, and delivers a noticeably smoother ride for full-timers and weekend warriors alike. The GNRC800 center section is the removable coupling head assembly that does all of that work.

Because B&W engineered the Companion as a modular system, you do not have to buy an entirely new hitch when the center section is the only component that needs attention. The GNRC800 drops into any standard Companion rail kit, locks in place with the same quick-release mechanism owners are already familiar with, and restores full towing function without a bed-rail swap or a trip to a dealership.

Modular Drop-In Design

Installs into any standard B&W Companion rail kit. No drilling, no re-wiring, no new mounting hardware required when rails are already in the truck.

Self-Lubricating Head

The Companion sliding head uses a maintenance-friendly self-lubricating pivot, reducing friction on the king pin and minimizing side-load transfer to the truck bed.

Short-Bed Friendly

The sliding action of the Companion center section provides the clearance needed for most short-bed trucks to tow standard 5th wheel trailers without a separate truck-bed slider kit.

Genuine B&W Quality

Made in Humboldt, Kansas. Heavy-gauge steel construction with durable powder coat finish. Backed by B&W's reputation for American-made towing products.

Where the GNRC800 Fits in the Companion Lineup

B&W sells the Companion hitch system in two ways: as a complete kit (center section plus truck-specific rail kit bundled together), and as individual components for owners who already have rails installed. The GNRC800 is the standalone center section -- it is the same core head assembly found inside the full Companion hitch kits. If you already have a set of B&W Companion rails in your truck bed and need only the coupling head, the GNRC800 is the correct replacement part.

This part is also the right choice if you are purchasing a truck that came with Companion rails from a previous owner but is missing the center section, or if you are setting up a second truck to share one set of rails with the center section you move between vehicles.

Move Between Trucks Easily: Because the Companion center section removes quickly from the rail kit without tools, many owners purchase a second center section to permanently assign to a second tow vehicle -- both trucks share the same quick-connect interface and either can hook up to the same trailer.

Compatibility With Companion Rail Kits

The GNRC800 center section is designed to work with B&W's standard Companion rail kits. B&W offers truck-specific rail kits for a wide range of popular 5th wheel tow vehicles, including:

  • Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups (RVK2500, RVK2600, and related rail kits)
  • Ford F-150, F-250, and F-350 Super Duty (corresponding truck-specific rail kits)
  • Chevrolet and GMC 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD pickups
  • Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan (where Companion rail kits are offered)

Always verify that your existing rail kit is a B&W Companion-series rail (not a Turnoverball or fifth wheel adapter rail) before ordering. The GNRC800 center section is not compatible with non-Companion mounting rail systems.

Rail Kit Sold Separately: The GNRC800 is the center section only. Truck-specific Companion rail kits are sold as separate part numbers. If you need a complete hitch system, look for the appropriate full Companion kit for your truck year and model.

Installation Overview

Installing the GNRC800 into an existing set of Companion rails is straightforward. The center section slides into the front and rear cross bars of the rail kit, and a pair of locking levers -- the same ones used during every hookup and unhookup -- secure it in position. No special tools are needed for the center section installation itself. If you are also installing a new rail kit at the same time, standard hand tools and a torque wrench are sufficient for the bed-rail mounting hardware.

Maintenance Tip: Periodically inspect the jaw mechanism and locking handle for wear, debris, and proper engagement. Wipe the slider surfaces clean and apply a light coat of dry lubricant or white lithium grease to the slide rails at least once per season or every 5,000 towing miles, whichever comes first.

King Pin and Trailer Compatibility

The B&W Companion center section is designed for standard SAE 5th wheel king pins (2-inch king pin diameter) as used on the vast majority of North American 5th wheel trailers -- including travel trailers, toy haulers, and fifth wheel RVs from manufacturers such as Keystone, Forest River, Grand Design, Heartland, Jayco, Alliance, and others. It is not designed for gooseneck ball couplers.

Heads-Up -- Verify Tow Rating: Confirm that your truck's GVWR, payload rating, and hitch receiver capacity are sufficient for your trailer's loaded pin weight before towing. The center section itself carries a high tow rating, but your truck's ratings are the limiting factor in your overall tow capacity.

Important Information -- Please Read Before Ordering
  • The GNRC800 is the center section ONLY. It does not include a rail kit. Companion rail kits are truck-specific and must be purchased separately if not already installed.
  • This center section is designed for B&W Companion-series rail kits only. It is not compatible with competitor brand rail systems or non-Companion B&W mounting systems.
  • Verify your existing rails are genuine B&W Companion rails before ordering. Counterfeit or off-brand rail kits may appear similar but will not safely accept the GNRC800 center section.
  • Always confirm your truck's payload and tow ratings before hitching a 5th wheel trailer. Exceeding payload or tow limits is a safety hazard regardless of hitch quality.
  • Inspect the jaw, latch, and locking mechanism before every tow. Do not tow if the king pin does not engage with a firm, audible click and a positive pull-test.
  • At 39.7 lbs, the center section is manageable for one person to install but awkward. A second person or a lift assist is recommended to avoid injury during installation or removal.
