Suburban Mfg UL / CGA Approved Thermal Protection

Suburban Mfg 523008 -- 20-Inch Propane Pigtail Hose, Type 1 ACME Nut x 1/4" MPT

A purpose-built LP connection hose that links your propane tank to a two-stage regulator. UL/CGA listed, thermally protected, and sized at 20 inches for flexible routing in tight RV compartments. Regulator not included.

The Right Hose Between Your LP Tank and Regulator

Most RV propane system failures trace back to an aging or damaged pigtail -- the short flexible hose that bridges the gap between a fixed propane cylinder and the two-stage regulator. The Suburban Mfg 523008 is engineered specifically for this role. At 20 inches, it gives you enough slack to remove and reinstall your tank without wrestling the regulator off its mounting bracket, while staying compact enough to fit neatly inside a standard LP compartment.

One end carries a Type 1 ACME nut (also called a QCC1 connection) that threads directly onto any standard horizontal-output propane cylinder valve -- the same type found on 20 lb and 30 lb tanks used by the vast majority of RVs and travel trailers. The other end is a 1/4" Male Pipe Thread (MPT) fitting that connects to the inlet port of a two-stage LP regulator. The 1/4" inside diameter bore is matched to the flow requirements of typical RV propane systems.

Type 1 ACME Nut

Hand-tightens directly onto standard QCC1 propane cylinder valves -- no tools needed at the tank end. Positive seal, no POL adapter required.

1/4" MPT Outlet

Standard male pipe thread fits the inlet of most two-stage LP regulators. Wrench-tighten with thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for propane service.

Thermal Protection

Built-in thermal protection sleeve adds a safety barrier in flash-fire or extreme heat exposure scenarios -- an important code requirement for RV LP systems.

UL / CGA Listed

Tested and listed to UL and CGA (Canadian Gas Association) standards. Meets the approval requirements for RV propane installations in the US and Canada.

Why Replace Your Pigtail Hose?

Propane pigtail hoses should be inspected annually and replaced every 5-10 years, or any time you notice cracking, stiffness, abrasion damage to the outer jacket, or a failed leak test. A degraded hose is the most common source of LP leaks at the tank connection. This hose replaces OEM and aftermarket pigtails on any RV, camper, or propane installation that uses a QCC1/Type 1 tank valve and a 1/4" MPT regulator inlet.

Fitment and Compatibility

  • Fits any propane tank with a standard Type 1 (QCC1) valve -- including 20 lb, 30 lb, and 40 lb horizontal-output cylinders
  • Mates to any two-stage LP regulator with a 1/4" female pipe thread (FPT) inlet
  • Compatible with Suburban, Cavagna, Marshall Excelsior, and most other RV two-stage regulators
  • Suitable for travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and any RV LP system using a separate tank-and-regulator setup
  • Also fits residential-style LP setups on cabins, sheds, and outdoor appliance installations

Installation Notes

  • Apply PTFE tape or pipe dope rated for LP gas service to the 1/4" MPT threads before connecting to the regulator
  • The Type 1 ACME nut is hand-tightened only -- do not use a wrench on the ACME nut end
  • After installation, perform a leak check with approved leak detection solution before relighting appliances
  • Do not use this hose to connect directly to an appliance -- it is designed for tank-to-regulator service only
  • Regulator is NOT included. This listing is for the pigtail hose only.

Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect the hose annually for cracks, brittleness, or abrasion -- replace if any damage is found
  • Store the hose away from direct sunlight and heat sources when possible to extend service life
  • Check the ACME nut O-ring seal each season; replace the hose if the O-ring is flattened, cracked, or missing
  • Never kink or sharply bend the hose -- route it with gentle curves to avoid stress at the fittings

  • Always perform a leak test with an approved leak-detection solution after installation and before lighting any appliances.
  • The Type 1 ACME nut end is hand-tight only -- overtightening with tools will damage the nut and O-ring seal.
  • Apply LP-rated PTFE tape or thread sealant to the 1/4" MPT end before connecting to the regulator.
  • Replace the hose immediately if any cracking, stiffness, or damage to the outer jacket is found during inspection.
  • Do not use this hose as a direct appliance connection -- it is rated for tank-to-regulator service only.
  • Follow all local codes and NFPA 58 guidelines for LP gas installations in recreational vehicles.
