The Reese 6562 Trailer Emulator (7-way RV blade) lets you test a tow vehicle’s trailer-lighting, 12V charge, and brake controller outputs without hooking up a real trailer. Plug it into the vehicle’s 7-way and quickly verify circuits for left/right turn, tail/running, reverse, electric brakes, and 12V auxiliary. Ideal for troubleshooting wiring issues, confirming installs, and shop check-outs after service.

Why use it
  • Quick, no-trailer electrical check at the bumper
  • Isolates vehicle faults vs. trailer faults
  • Speeds up diagnosis after wiring or controller installs
  • Compact & rugged—keep it in the glovebox or shop cart
What it shows
  • Left/Right turn & brake lamp outputs
  • Tail/Running lamp output
  • Reverse (center pin) output
  • 12V charge/aux feed present
  • Electric brake controller output activity

Compatibility

  • Fits standard 7-way RV blade (SAE J2863) vehicle sockets.
  • Works with factory and aftermarket brake controllers (proportional or time-delay).
  • For vehicle-side testing. Does not diagnose internal trailer wiring/components.
Quick Use:
  1. Set the vehicle in Park with ignition ON (or engine running) and lights off.
  2. Plug the Reese 6562 into the 7-way socket firmly.
  3. Activate each function:
    • Left/Right turn signals & brake pedal
    • Headlights/parking lights (tail/running)
    • Reverse gear (for reverse circuit)
    • Manual brake controller slide & foot brake
  4. Observe the indicator LEDs corresponding to each circuit.

  • 12V Aux may require ignition ON or a specific tow-package setting on some trucks.
  • For 4-flat or 5-flat vehicle connectors, use an adapter at the bumper and test lighting only (no brake controller on 4-flat).

FAQs

Will this test my trailer’s interior lights or brakes?
This tests the vehicle’s 7-way outputs only. It won’t evaluate wiring inside the trailer. To test a trailer, use a trailer-side tester or hook to a known-good vehicle.
Can I see brake controller output?
Yes—operate the controller manual slide and press the brake pedal. The brake circuit indicator will show output activity. For exact current/voltage, use a meter at the 7-way.
Will it work with smart/LED truck systems?
Yes. It’s compatible with most factory tow packages and LED-compatible modules. If you have lamp-out detection quirks, test with ignition on and hazards/turns individually.
