A heavy-duty propane pigtail built specifically for RV dual-tank regulator setups. The stainless steel overbraid resists rodent damage and abrasion, while the integrated back check valve lets you swap a tank without shutting down propane flow from the other side. Part number 100833-15-MBS (vendor part 06-1415) from MB Sturgis -- a trusted name in RV propane system components.
Most RV propane systems run two tanks through an automatic changeover regulator. When one tank runs out, the regulator switches to the other -- but only if your pigtails include back check valves. This MB Sturgis pigtail has that valve built in at the tank end. Without it, a dead tank can allow propane to bleed back instead of holding pressure on the active side.
At 15 inches, this hose gives you enough reach to connect a standard 20 lb or 30 lb DOT cylinder to a typical RV underbelly regulator bracket without strain on the fittings. The stainless overbraid is not decorative -- it is a real mechanical barrier against chewing damage, UV degradation, and abrasion from road debris.
Woven stainless steel jacket protects the inner hose from rodents, abrasion, and UV exposure over years of seasonal use.
Allows tank swaps on dual-tank systems without interrupting flow from the active tank -- no shutoff required on the other side.
Left-hand ACME thread (POL style) hand-tightens securely onto standard 20 lb and 30 lb DOT propane cylinders used in RV applications.
More than enough for typical RV loads including furnace, water heater, range, and refrigerator running simultaneously.
This pigtail has two distinct ends. Confirm both before purchasing:
If your regulator uses a different inlet thread (such as 3/8" MIF or 9/16" ACME), this pigtail will not fit without an adapter. Measure or check your regulator spec before ordering.
The integrated back check valve is specifically required by many RV manufacturers and NFPA 58 guidelines when using automatic changeover regulators. Each tank in a two-tank system should have its own pigtail with a back check valve. This unit provides that protection on one side; order a second for a complete two-tank system.
No sealant or thread tape is needed on the inverted flare end -- the metal-to-metal cone seat provides the seal. Do not use Teflon tape on inverted flare fittings. The Type 1 tank end is hand-tightened only; do not use a wrench on the ACME nut. After connection, test all joints with leak detector solution before lighting any appliances.
Always apply approved propane leak detector solution to both ends after installation. Bubbles indicate a leak that must be corrected before use. Never test for leaks with an open flame.
This pigtail is suited for the following common RV configurations:
One (1) MB Sturgis stainless overbraid propane pigtail, 15 inches in length, with RV Type 1 ACME back check fitting on the tank end and 1/4" male inverted flare fitting on the regulator end. No additional fittings, adapters, or hardware are included.
Inspect the pigtail each season before use. Look for kinks, corrosion at the fittings, or any sign of stainless braid separation. Replace immediately if the inner hose is exposed or if any fitting shows signs of corrosion or thread damage. MB Sturgis recommends replacing propane hoses every 5 to 10 years regardless of visible condition.
For a complete dual-tank setup, pair this pigtail with a second MB Sturgis back check pigtail on the other tank, and an automatic changeover two-stage regulator with 1/4" MIF inlet ports. A pigtail is a consumable wear item -- keeping a spare on board is good practice for full-timers and long-trip travelers.
