Suburban Mfg Part 523009 Thermal Protection Suburban 523009 Propane Pigtail Hose -- 20", Type 1 ACME Nut x 1/4" Inverted Male Flare

The Suburban 523009 is a purpose-built LP pigtail hose that bridges a standard propane cylinder to a two-stage regulator. At 20 inches long with a 1/4" inside diameter, it gives you enough working length to connect portable tanks without awkward positioning, and the thermal protection wrap guards the hose where heat or abrasion is a concern.

The Right Connection Between Your Tank and Regulator

Pigtail hoses are one of those components that rarely get replaced until there is a problem -- a cracked fitting, a stiff hose that no longer seals, or an upgrade to a new regulator that demands a fresh connection. The Suburban 523009 is designed for that exact job: connecting a standard Type 1 (POL-style ACME threaded) propane cylinder valve to a two-stage regulator with a 1/4" inverted male flare inlet.

This hose is commonly used in RV LP systems where a dedicated pigtail runs from a mounted or portable cylinder to the primary stage of a dual-stage regulator. The 20" length works well in standard RV LP compartment configurations where the tank and regulator sit in close proximity.

Type 1 ACME Nut

Left-hand ACME threaded nut fits standard Type 1 propane cylinder valves -- the most common valve style on DOT cylinders used in RV applications.

1/4" Inverted Male Flare

Outlet end connects to regulators and LP manifolds with a standard 1/4" inverted flare female fitting -- no adapters needed for typical two-stage regulator inlets.

Thermal Protection Wrap

The hose includes a thermal protection sleeve to resist radiant heat and abrasion, extending service life in tight or warm LP compartments.

20" Working Length

Enough reach to accommodate most RV LP tank-to-regulator configurations without excess slack that can kink or bunch in a compartment.

Where This Hose Is Used

In a typical RV LP system, the propane cylinder feeds a two-stage regulator through one or two pigtail hoses. Each pigtail is connected at one end to the cylinder valve and at the other end to the regulator inlet or an automatic changeover valve. The Suburban 523009 fills the pigtail role on the cylinder side for systems using Type 1 ACME cylinder valves and regulators with 1/4" inverted flare inlets.

  • Motorhomes and travel trailers with vertically mounted DOT cylinders in an LP compartment
  • Fifth wheels with dual-cylinder setups using an automatic changeover regulator
  • Single-cylinder portable configurations connected to a two-stage external regulator
  • Replacement for aging or cracked OEM pigtail hoses on Suburban-equipped rigs
Direct Suburban Replacement

As a Suburban Mfg factory part (p/n 523009), this hose is a direct OEM-equivalent replacement for Suburban LP systems. No modifications or adapters are needed when replacing a same-spec pigtail in a Suburban-configured propane system.

Fitting Identification Guide

Before ordering, confirm both ends of the hose you are replacing match this configuration:

  • Tank end: Type 1 ACME nut (large left-hand thread that hand-tightens onto the cylinder valve outlet). If your cylinder has a POL valve requiring a wrench, that is a different connection standard -- not this hose.
  • Regulator end: 1/4" inverted male flare. This is a flared metal tube end that seats inside a female inverted flare fitting on the regulator body. Confirm your regulator inlet is female inverted flare, not a barb, NPT, or POL port.
Type 1 vs. POL -- Know Your Cylinder Valve

Type 1 (also called QCC1 or ACME) valves have become the standard on most post-1998 DOT cylinders sold in the US. They have a large, externally threaded collar that accepts a hand-tightened ACME nut. Older POL valves (also called Type P or left-hand male threads) require a different pigtail connection. Check your cylinder valve before ordering.

Installation Notes

  • Turn off the cylinder valve fully before disconnecting any LP hose.
  • Inspect all connections with a leak-detection solution (soapy water or approved LP leak detector spray) after installation before lighting any appliance.
  • The Type 1 ACME nut is hand-tightened -- do not use a pipe wrench on this end. The flare end should be snugged with an appropriate wrench to seat the flare, typically 1/4-turn past finger tight.
  • Route the hose to avoid contact with sharp edges or direct heat sources beyond what the thermal protection sleeve is designed to handle.
  • Replace any LP hose that shows cracking, stiffness, discoloration, or a detected leak. Do not attempt to repair a damaged LP hose.
Maintenance Tip

Pigtail hoses should be visually inspected at least once per season. Look for brittleness in the hose body, corrosion at the fittings, and any deformation of the flare seat. A properly maintained pigtail hose that seals correctly is one of the simplest steps to safe LP system operation.

What Is Included

In the Box1x Suburban 523009 propane pigtail hose, 20"
Not IncludedRegulator, cylinder, adapters, fittings
Commonly Paired With

This pigtail hose is typically used alongside a two-stage LP regulator and, in dual-tank setups, an automatic changeover valve. If you are rebuilding your full LP supply line from the tanks to the regulator, consider sourcing both pigtail hoses, the regulator, and a new supply hose from tank to appliances at the same time to ensure all components are in serviceable condition.

Important Safety Information
  • This hose is designed for LP (liquefied petroleum / propane) gas only. Do not use with natural gas systems.
  • Always shut off the cylinder valve before connecting or disconnecting this hose.
  • Perform a leak test with an approved detection solution after every installation or reconnection. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Do not use a cracked, kinked, stiff, or previously leaking hose. Replace it immediately.
  • The Type 1 ACME nut is hand-tightened only. Over-tightening with tools can damage the valve or nut sealing surfaces.
  • Do not modify, splice, or repair this hose. If damaged, replace the entire assembly.
  • This is a 90-day warranty part. Inspect annually and replace proactively as part of LP system maintenance.
