This 15" propane pigtail hose connects a dual LP cylinder setup to a two-stage regulator using a POL (Prest-O-Lite) tank fitting on one end and a 1/4" male inverted flare on the other. Purpose-built for high-demand RV applications where a standard Type 1 connection restricts gas flow and causes regulator bypass issues.
When multiple RV appliances -- furnace, water heater, cooktop, and generator -- run simultaneously, the demand for propane can overwhelm a single-tank or Type 1 connection. The result is regulator bypass: raw, unregulated LP reaching your appliances at dangerously high pressure. The MB Sturgis 100019-15 pigtail is the correct hose to run in a dual-cylinder changeover or two-stage regulator setup, using a POL fitting that allows significantly higher gas flow than a Type 1 (QCC/ACME) connection.
The 15" length suits tight underbelly compartments and standard dual-bottle brackets common on travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A/C motorhomes. The 1/4" male inverted flare outlet threads directly into most two-stage automatic changeover regulators used in RV LP systems.
Left-hand threaded POL fitting with built-in excess flow valve. Flows more LP than Type 1 -- critical for high-demand multi-appliance RV systems.
Standard 1/4" MIF fitting threads directly into two-stage and automatic changeover regulators without adapters in most applications.
Thermoplastic hose body rated to handle full tank pressure -- safe for liquid or vapor LP service at the cylinder connection point.
UL569 listed and ANSI Z21-81 certified for LP gas service. Meets safety requirements for RV propane systems in the US and Canada.
POL stands for Prest-O-Lite -- an older but still widely used LP cylinder valve standard. Unlike the Type 1 (QCC1/ACME) handwheel fitting common on portable grill tanks, the POL valve is a left-hand threaded male fitting that screws into the female POL valve on standard 20 lb and larger DOT cylinders. Permanently mounted RV LP tanks -- whether horizontal ASME tanks or vertical DOT cylinders in dual-tank brackets -- almost universally use POL or POL-compatible valves.
The POL connection is designed for higher-volume vapor withdrawal and includes an integral excess flow valve in this assembly, which automatically restricts gas if a downstream hose ruptures. This makes it the correct choice for pigtails feeding a two-stage regulator, where full tank pressure is present on the inlet side.
Most RVs with dual LP cylinders use an automatic changeover regulator (two-stage) that switches from the primary to the reserve cylinder when the primary empties. Each cylinder connects to the regulator via a separate pigtail hose. The MB Sturgis 100019-15 is designed for exactly this role:
LP hoses should be inspected at least once per season and replaced at the first sign of cracking, brittleness, abrasion, or kinking. Many LP safety guidelines recommend replacing propane hoses every 5-10 years regardless of visible condition. The 15" thermoplastic body of this hose is rated from -40F to 140F, covering full four-season use including cold-weather camping where other hose materials may stiffen and crack.
