MB Sturgis 350 PSI Rated UL569 / ANSI Z21.81 Certified MB Sturgis 100019-20 -- POL x 1/4" Inverted Flare LP Pigtail Hose, 20"

The MB Sturgis 100019-20 is a high-flow LP propane pigtail hose designed to connect a dual-cylinder propane system directly to a two-stage regulator. Its POL (Prest-O-Lite) inlet delivers a higher unrestricted flow than a Type 1 (QCC1) connection, making it the right choice when your RV appliances demand more BTUs than a standard connector can reliably supply.

High-Flow LP Connection for Dual-Cylinder RV Setups

When you run multiple LP appliances simultaneously -- furnace, range, water heater, and refrigerator -- a single standard hose and Type 1 fitting can restrict gas flow enough to cause burner lockouts, regulator bypass, and nuisance shutoffs. The POL connection on this MB Sturgis hose bypasses that bottleneck, delivering up to 500,000 BTU/hr of capacity through a 1/4-inch ID thermoplastic hose.

The 20-inch length is the standard "pigtail" format used on most coach and trailer dual-cylinder manifolds. One end threads onto a standard POL tank valve (left-hand thread, no handwheel needed); the other end terminates in a 1/4-inch male inverted flare for direct connection to a two-stage regulator or manifold inlet.

POL Tank Connection

Left-hand threaded POL fitting with integrated excess-flow protection. Provides higher unrestricted flow than QCC1/Type 1 connections.

1/4" Male Inverted Flare Outlet

Industry-standard 1/4-inch male inverted flare outlet mates directly to two-stage regulators and dual-cylinder manifolds without adapters.

Wide Temperature Rating

Rated -40F to 140F (-40C to 60C), suitable for cold-weather camping and warm-climate full-time RV living alike.

UL569 / ANSI Z21.81 Certified

Meets UL569 and ANSI Z21.81 standards for LP hose connectors. Accepted by most campground inspectors and RV technicians.

What Is a Pigtail Hose and Why Does the Connection Type Matter?

An LP pigtail hose is the short flexible connector between each propane cylinder valve and the automatic changeover regulator or manifold. Most RVs ship with Type 1 (QCC1) pigtail hoses, which include a built-in excess-flow restriction rated around 200,000 BTU/hr. For rigs with a single burner or two small appliances, that is adequate.

On coaches with a furnace, 3-burner range, oven, tankless water heater, and absorption refrigerator all potentially drawing at the same time, the Type 1 restriction can trigger nuisance excess-flow lockouts even when the cylinder is full. Upgrading to POL pigtails like this MB Sturgis hose raises the practical flow ceiling substantially and eliminates most regulator bypass complaints.

Excess Flow Protection Included -- The POL fitting on this hose incorporates an excess-flow valve. If the hose is severed or a very large downstream leak occurs, flow automatically stops at the tank connection. This safety feature is required by NFPA 58 for hoses of this type.

Typical Installation

  • Close both LP cylinder valves and relieve pressure in the regulator by briefly opening a burner on the range.
  • Unthread the existing pigtail hose from the cylinder valve -- POL fittings are left-hand thread, so turn clockwise to loosen.
  • Thread the POL end of the new hose onto the cylinder valve by hand, then snug with a wrench -- do not overtighten.
  • Connect the 1/4-inch inverted flare end to the regulator or manifold inlet; tighten to manufacturer torque spec (typically 15-20 ft-lb for brass inverted flare).
  • Slowly open the cylinder valve and check all connections with approved leak-detection solution before lighting any appliance.
LP Gas Only -- This hose is rated for liquid propane (LP) and propane vapor service only. It is not suitable for natural gas, compressed air, or any other gas.

Compatibility Notes

This hose fits any standard POL cylinder valve (the most common valve type on 20 lb, 30 lb, and larger horizontal cylinders used on RVs). The 1/4-inch male inverted flare outlet is a universal size used by virtually all two-stage automatic changeover regulators and dual-cylinder manifolds from Cavagna, Marshall Excelsior, Rego, and similar brands.

If your regulator inlet accepts a different fitting type (such as 9/16-inch inverted flare or a 1/4-inch NPT female), an appropriate adapter fitting will be required -- not included with this hose.

Replacement Interval -- NFPA 58 and most LP hose manufacturers recommend replacing propane pigtail hoses every 10 years regardless of appearance, or immediately if cuts, cracks, abrasion, or any sign of heat damage is visible. Check the hose date-code stamp before reinstalling an old hose.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This product is for LP (propane) gas service only. Do not use with natural gas, compressed air, or any other medium.
  • Always perform a leak test with approved leak-detection solution after installation. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • POL fittings are left-hand thread. Turn clockwise to loosen, counter-clockwise to tighten.
  • Replace this hose immediately if any cuts, cracks, heat damage, or abrasion are visible, or after 10 years of service per NFPA 58 recommendations.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified LP technician if you are not familiar with LP plumbing codes and safety procedures.
  • Excess-flow valve may temporarily lock out flow if the cylinder valve is opened too rapidly. Close the valve, wait 30 seconds, then reopen slowly.
  • Max working pressure is 350 PSI -- do not exceed this rating under any circumstances.
