MB Sturgis 100833-15-MBS Stainless Overbraid Propane Pigtail with Back Check — RV Type 1 x 1/4" Male Inverted Flare, 15"

MB Sturgis 100833-15-MBS Stainless Propane Pigtail with Back Check, RV Type 1 x 1/4" Male Inverted Flare, 15"

Connects a propane tank to your RV's regulator. Stainless steel overbraid protects against rodent damage and abrasion. RV Type 1 (ACME) connector with built-in back check valve — suitable for dual-tank setups. 1/4" male inverted flare regulator-side fitting. 15" length. Rated up to 450,000 BTU/hr.

Why Choose the MB Sturgis 100833-15-MBS?

A propane pigtail is the connection between your RV's propane tank and its regulator — and the MB Sturgis 100833-15-MBS takes that connection a step further by wrapping the hose in a stainless steel overbraid. This protective layer shields the hose from abrasion and, importantly, from rodent damage — small animals are drawn to the warm, sheltered spaces around propane tanks and have been known to chew through unprotected hose material, creating a serious safety hazard. The stainless overbraid puts a durable barrier between teeth and hose.

Like MB Sturgis's standard 100575 pigtail series, the 100833-15-MBS is built around the RV Type 1 (ACME) connector — the modern standard fitting found on most current propane cylinders — and includes a built-in back check valve that prevents hazardous backflow leakage, making it suitable for dual-tank setups where two pigtails feed a shared two-stage regulator. The Type 1 connector provides a higher rate of flow than older POL-style connections, reducing the chance of the system going into bypass mode during normal use. The opposite end terminates in a 1/4" male inverted flare fitting designed to thread into the female inverted flare inlet found on most RV propane regulators. At 15", this length provides a bit more reach than the 12" option while still suiting tanks and regulators in relatively close proximity, and giving installers extra slack to route the hose cleanly without tension.

🛡️ Stainless Steel Overbraid

Protects the hose from rodent damage and abrasion — a durable upgrade over standard unprotected pigtail hose

🔒 Built-In Back Check Valve

Prevents hazardous backflow leakage — makes this pigtail suitable for dual-tank propane systems with a shared regulator

⚡ RV Type 1 (ACME) Connector

Modern standard tank connector provides higher flow rate than older POL fittings, reducing the chance of bypass shutdown

🛡️ 450,000 BTU/Hr Safety Capacity

Internal ball-and-spring mechanism shuts off flow if demand exceeds rated capacity, protecting against unsafe overflow conditions

⚠️ Confirm Your Tank Connector, Regulator Fitting, and Length Before Ordering

Before ordering, confirm the following:

1. Tank-side connector — Type 1 (ACME) vs. POL: This pigtail uses the modern RV Type 1 (ACME) connector, standard on most current propane tanks (often identifiable by a green cap). If your tank uses the older POL left-hand-thread connection, you will need a different pigtail or an adapter — this part will not thread onto a POL valve.

2. Regulator-side fitting: The regulator end of this pigtail is a 1/4" male inverted flare. Confirm your regulator has a matching female inverted flare inlet, often via a brass NPT-to-inverted-flare adapter pre-installed on the regulator. If your regulator instead has a 1/4" female NPT inlet directly, see the MB Sturgis 100473 series (rubber, no overbraid) instead.

3. Length: This pigtail is 15" long. Shorter (12") and longer (24", 36") options are available in the stainless overbraid family depending on your tank-to-regulator distance.

4. Dual-tank setups: If you have two tanks feeding a single two-stage regulator, you will need two pigtails — one per tank.

🔢 100833 Stainless Overbraid Family — Available Lengths

The 100833 Stainless Overbraid Propane Pigtail with Back Check is available in multiple standard lengths, all sharing the same RV Type 1 x 1/4" male inverted flare connector configuration with stainless steel overbraid protection:

100833-12-MBS — 12" (1 ft)
100833-15-MBS (This Product) — 15"
100833-24-MBS — 24" (2 ft)
100833-36-MBS — 36" (3 ft) — the longest available with stainless overbraid

If you need a length longer than 36" or prefer standard (non-overbraided) rubber hose, see the MB Sturgis 100575 series, available in lengths up to 60".

Key Features & Benefits

  • Stainless Steel Overbraid Protection: Shields the hose from rodent damage and physical abrasion — a meaningful upgrade in protection over unprotected pigtail hose
  • RV Type 1 (ACME) Tank Connector: Modern standard fitting providing higher flow rate than older POL-style connections
  • Built-In Back Check Valve: Prevents hazardous backflow leakage, enabling safe use in dual-tank configurations
  • 450,000 BTU/Hr Flow Capacity: Supports high-demand RV propane systems while including a built-in safety bypass mechanism
  • 1/4" Male Inverted Flare: Regulator-side fitting designed to thread into standard female inverted flare regulator inlets
  • 15" Length: Slightly more reach than the 12" option, providing extra slack for cleaner routing
  • Suitable for Dual-Tank Systems: Back check valve design makes this pigtail safe to use alongside a second pigtail on a shared two-stage regulator
  • Trusted Manufacturer: MB Sturgis has decades of experience supplying RV propane connection products

📋 Installation Overview

Installation Steps:

1. Shut Off Gas Supply: Close the tank valve completely before disconnecting any existing pigtail or making new connections

2. Connect the Type 1 End: Thread the RV Type 1 (ACME) connector onto the propane tank valve and hand-tighten

3. Connect the Inverted Flare End: Thread the 1/4" male inverted flare fitting into the regulator's matching female inlet

4. Tighten Securely: Tighten both connections to a secure, leak-free fit without overtightening

5. For Dual-Tank Setups: Repeat installation for the second tank and pigtail, connecting both to the two-stage regulator's separate inlets

6. Leak Test: Slowly open the tank valve(s) and perform a soap-and-water leak test on every connection before use

Gas line work should be performed or verified by a qualified technician. Always leak-test connections before placing the system into service.
