A reliable, code-compliant connection between your RV propane cylinder and the first-stage regulator. This 60-inch Marshall Excelsior pigtail hose features a built-in excess flow valve that shuts off gas flow automatically if the hose is severed or suffers a major leak -- giving you a critical layer of safety at the cylinder. Fully crimped brass ferrules, a flexible thermoplastic body, and Made-in-USA construction make this the hose that serious RVers and LP service technicians reach for first.
Pigtail hoses are the flexible link between a fixed POL valve on a propane cylinder and the rigid inlet of a regulator or manifold. Over time, hoses crack, fittings corrode, and rubber loses its seal -- making periodic replacement one of the most important propane system maintenance tasks for any RV owner. The MECMER401-60 gives you a full 60 inches of working length, which provides enough slack to connect dual-cylinder setups, reach an underbelly regulator, or accommodate cylinder movement during travel without stressing the fittings.
The integrated excess flow feature is what sets this hose apart from standard pigtails. If downstream flow exceeds the designed threshold -- as it would in the event of a hose rupture or accidental disconnection under pressure -- the excess flow device closes automatically, stopping propane release at the source. This meets modern RV LP safety standards and is a requirement on many state inspections and campground hookup checks.

Both ends are factory-crimped with solid brass ferrules -- no field swaging required. Eliminates the leak points common with reusable fittings.
The hose assembly includes thermal protection to help maintain integrity in high-heat environments near appliances or engine compartments.
Meets UL and CGA (Compressed Gas Association) standards for LP gas service. Acceptable for use in inspected RV and portable LP systems.
The POL (Prest-O-Lite) 7/8" nut end threads onto the standard left-hand-thread POL valve found on most DOT propane cylinders used with RVs, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Turn the POL nut counterclockwise to tighten -- it is a left-hand thread by design to prevent accidental loosening.
The 1/4" male inverted flare end connects to the inlet of a first-stage or two-stage LP regulator. The inverted flare design creates a metal-to-metal seal that is more reliable than tapered pipe thread in vibration-heavy RV applications. No sealant tape or compound is used or needed on inverted flare connections.
The core hose is a flexible thermoplastic construction rated for LP gas service. Unlike rubber-core hoses that harden and crack over years of UV and ozone exposure, the thermoplastic body retains flexibility across a wide temperature range -- an important trait for RVers who store in cold climates or travel in desert heat. The 1/4" nominal hose diameter is consistent with the MER401 series flow requirements for residential and RV LP appliance loads.
Marshall Excelsior backs this hose with a limited 5-year manufacturer warranty. The hose is manufactured in the USA. Despite the warranty period, LP industry best practice and NFPA 58 guidance recommend inspecting propane hoses annually and replacing them every 5 to 10 years regardless of visible condition -- or immediately if any cracking, abrasion, or smell of gas is detected.
