Lippert7,000 Lb Axle RatingPre-AssembledLippert 814204 12" Brake Hub Assembly -- 8 on 6.5" Bolt Pattern, 9/16" Stud, 7,000 Lb

A direct-replacement brake hub for heavy-duty trailer axles rated at 7,000 lbs. The Lippert 814204 ships fully assembled with bearing cones, seals, and grease already installed -- so you can bolt it on and get back on the road without sourcing separate bearing kits. Built from solid iron for long-term durability under the demands of towing, full-timing, and frequent hitching cycles.

Ready-to-Install Trailer Brake Hub for 7,000 Lb Axles

The Lippert 814204 is a complete drop-in replacement hub assembly designed for 7,000-lb rated trailer axles. If you are dealing with a worn drum, damaged studs, or failed bearings on a heavier travel trailer, fifth wheel, or cargo trailer, this assembly lets you replace the entire hub unit rather than chasing individual bearing cups, cones, and seals separately.

Lippert manufactures axle components for a wide range of RV brands. This hub is built to the same specifications as original equipment found on many factory-installed Lippert axle systems, making it a reliable OE-style replacement rather than a generic substitute.

Pre-Assembled, Ready to Mount

Bearing cones, races, seals, and grease are installed at the factory. No separate bearing kit required.

Solid Iron Construction

Durable solid iron brake hub withstands the heat and stress of trailer braking on long hauls and mountain descents.

8 on 6.5" Bolt Pattern

Eight-lug, 6.5-inch bolt circle matches common 16" to 17.5" trailer wheel configurations used on 7,000-lb axle assemblies.

9/16" Wheel Studs

Nine-sixteenths-inch studs are correctly sized for the lug nuts used on heavier-duty trailer wheel packages in this axle class.

Fitment and Compatibility

This hub assembly is designed for use on 7,000-lb rated trailer axles using an 8-lug, 6.5-inch bolt circle. It accepts wheels sized from 16 inches to 17.5 inches in diameter. It is a common fitment on:

  • Heavy travel trailers and fifth wheels with Lippert 7,000-lb axles
  • Cargo and equipment trailers with 8 on 6.5" wheel bolt patterns
  • Horse and livestock trailers running the same axle specification
  • Trailers originally equipped with Lippert or Dexter 7,000-lb drum brake axle assemblies sharing this bolt pattern
Ships Fully Assembled: Bearing cones, bearing cups, grease seals, and packed grease are pre-installed at the factory. You receive a complete hub unit ready to slide onto the spindle -- just torque the castle nut, install the cotter pin, and mount your wheel.

What Is and Is Not Included

Understanding what comes in the box prevents delays at install time.

  • Included: Solid iron brake hub with drum surface
  • Included: Inner and outer bearing cones (pre-installed)
  • Included: Inner and outer bearing cups (pressed into hub)
  • Included: Grease seal (pre-installed)
  • Included: Packed wheel bearing grease
  • Included: 9/16" wheel studs (pressed in)
  • NOT included: Brake shoes or brake magnets
  • NOT included: Castle nut, cotter pin, or dust cap (typically reused or purchased separately)
  • NOT included: Brake controller or wiring
Brake Hardware Note: This is the hub and drum assembly only. Existing electric brake shoe and magnet assemblies mount to the backing plate on your axle, not to this hub. Inspect your brake shoes and magnets while the hub is off -- replacement is straightforward with the hub removed.

Installation Tips

Maintenance and Install Reminders:
  • Clean the spindle thoroughly before sliding the new hub on -- remove any rust scale or debris that could damage the new inner seal.
  • Verify your spindle end diameter and thread spec match a standard Lippert 7,000-lb axle before ordering.
  • Torque the castle nut to the axle manufacturer's specification, typically 50 ft-lb initial torque, then back off and re-torque to seat bearings, then back off to the nearest cotter pin slot.
  • Check bearing preload by hand before final assembly -- the hub should spin freely with minimal play.
  • Re-pack or inspect bearings after the first 50 miles of use on a fresh install, and annually or every 12,000 miles thereafter.

Why Replace the Full Hub Assembly

Replacing a complete pre-assembled hub is often more cost-effective and time-efficient than sourcing individual bearing sets, pressing new cups, and sourcing matching seals. It also eliminates the risk of mismatched bearing part numbers, improper cup press depth, or reusing a worn drum surface. For anyone doing roadside repairs or working without a press, a drop-in assembly is the practical choice.

Weight Rating Warning: This hub is rated for axles up to 7,000 lbs. Do not install on axles exceeding that rating. Using an underrated hub assembly is a safety hazard that can lead to hub failure, wheel separation, and loss of vehicle control.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This hub is rated for 7,000-lb axles only. Do not use on axles with a higher weight rating.
  • Brake shoes, magnets, castle nut, cotter pin, and dust cap are NOT included. Inspect and replace brake hardware while hub is removed.
  • Verify the 8 on 6.5-inch bolt pattern and 9/16-inch stud size match your existing wheels before installing.
  • Compatible wheel diameters are 16 inches to 17.5 inches only. Do not mount smaller or larger wheels than specified.
  • Torque castle nut to axle manufacturer specifications. Improper torque can cause bearing failure or wheel separation.
  • Inspect the spindle for damage or wear before installing a new hub. A damaged spindle will destroy new bearings.
  • Not for use on front steering axles or tandem configurations where individual axle ratings are mismatched to this assembly.
