CURT Manufacturing Part No. 56080 5th Wheel / Gooseneck CURT 56080 Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Extension

Get your trailer lights, brakes, and auxiliary circuits talking to your tow vehicle without cutting or splicing a single wire. The CURT 56080 is a purpose-built wiring extension designed specifically for fifth wheel and gooseneck trailer applications where the standard harness falls short of the kingpin or ball mount area. Plug it in, route it, and tow with confidence.

Stop Fighting Short Harnesses on Long-Bed and Short-Bed Truck Setups

One of the most common frustrations when setting up a fifth wheel or gooseneck tow rig is discovering that the factory or aftermarket trailer connector simply does not reach the trailer's plug socket once the hitch is installed in the bed. Cab-to-bed routing adds length, over-rail or under-rail slider hitches push the connection point further back, and suddenly you have a harness that is 12 to 18 inches too short.

The CURT 56080 solves that problem directly. It extends the wiring run so your existing 7-way RV blade connector reaches the trailer socket cleanly, without loops of slack hanging near moving parts or zip-ties pulling a connector at an angle. It is engineered to carry all standard trailer circuits -- running lights, brake lights, turn signals, electric brake output, reverse lights, battery charge, and auxiliary power -- without voltage drop or signal degradation across the added length.

Plug-and-Play Design

Molded connectors on both ends mean no wire stripping, no crimping, and no heat-shrink work required in most truck and trailer combinations.

Full 7-Circuit Coverage

Carries all seven standard trailer wiring circuits including electric brake output and 12V auxiliary/charge line -- essential for RV fifth wheels with battery systems.

Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Rated

Designed specifically for in-bed hitch applications where standard tailgate-area connectors can not reach the trailer plug socket.

CURT Quality Construction

CURT is a SAE-compliant trailer products manufacturer. Connectors are weather-resistant with a molded strain relief to handle the vibration and movement of over-the-road towing.

Who Needs This Extension?

This extension is the right solution in several common scenarios:

  • Short-bed trucks (5.5 ft or 6 ft beds) with a slider or short-bed fifth wheel hitch -- the hitch slides rearward for turns but the factory plug does not follow
  • Long-bed trucks where the factory 7-way plug is mounted at the tailgate and the in-bed connector position is still too far from the trailer's socket
  • Gooseneck trailers with a 7-way socket mounted at the neck, positioned further forward than a standard bumper-pull socket
  • Custom bed installs or flatbeds where the factory plug was relocated or is missing entirely and a bed-mounted drop needs to be extended
  • Any rig where the existing connector has to be bent, looped, or forced into position -- stressing the wiring and risking intermittent connections
Clean Bed Routing: Because the CURT 56080 uses molded plug connectors on both ends, you can route the extension cable along the bed rail or down through a bed-floor grommet and keep the wiring tidy, protected, and well away from the fifth wheel hitch plate and landing gear.

Compatibility with CURT Hitches and Other Brands

The 56080 uses the industry-standard 7-way RV blade connector format (SAE J560 standard) on both ends, which means it is compatible with virtually every fifth wheel hitch and gooseneck ball-equipped truck on the road, regardless of whether the hitch itself is a CURT product. It will work with:

  • CURT fifth wheel hitches (Q-series, A-series, and standard series)
  • B&W Turnoverball and Companion fifth wheel hitches
  • Reese, Husky, and Drawtite fifth wheel and gooseneck hitch systems
  • Any trailer (fifth wheel or gooseneck) with a standard 7-way RV blade socket
  • Truck-side 7-way factory connectors from Ford, GM/Chevrolet, Ram, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan
7-Way Blade Standard: The 7-way RV blade connector (also called the 7-pin round connector) is the dominant format on Class A motorhomes used as dinghy tow vehicles, heavy-duty pickup trucks, and any trailer requiring electric brake output. If your truck and trailer both use 7-way round connectors, the CURT 56080 is a direct drop-in extension with no adapters needed.

Installation Overview

Installation is straightforward and does not require any wiring knowledge for most applications:

  • Locate your existing 7-way plug on the tow vehicle (typically mounted at the tailgate area or on a bracket near the hitch receiver)
  • Plug the female end of the 56080 into your existing vehicle connector
  • Route the extension cable through the bed to your desired drop point above or near the hitch
  • Secure the cable with appropriate loom clips or cable ties, keeping it away from hitch moving parts
  • The male end of the extension becomes your new connection point for the trailer's 7-way socket
Routing Tip: On short-bed slider hitch setups, route the extension cable with enough slack to accommodate the full rearward slide travel of the hitch (typically 10 to 12 inches) without pulling taut. A gentle loop secured to the bed rail on one side handles the movement cleanly.
Brake Controller Required Separately: This extension carries the brake output signal from your truck's brake controller to the trailer's electric brake system, but it does not include a brake controller. A brake controller must already be installed in the tow vehicle for trailer brake function.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This extension does NOT include a brake controller. Your tow vehicle must have a properly calibrated electric trailer brake controller installed for the brake circuit to function.
  • Always verify that the trailer's 7-way socket is a standard SAE J560 RV blade type before connecting. Flat 7-pin connectors used on some utility trailers use a different pin layout and are not compatible.
  • Secure all excess cable away from the hitch plate, kingpin box, landing gear, and any other moving components before towing. Unsecured cable can be pinched, cut, or stripped by hitch movement.
  • On slider hitch installations, confirm the extension cable has sufficient slack loop to accommodate the full fore-aft travel of the slider before towing -- typically 10 to 12 inches of travel.
  • Inspect connectors for corrosion or bent pins before each towing season. Apply dielectric grease to both connector faces to prevent moisture intrusion and corrosion on the blade pins.
  • The extension carries all standard 7-way circuits but does not add circuits that are not present in your tow vehicle's existing wiring. If your truck does not have a reverse light output wired to its 7-way plug, the extension will not create one.
