The Equal-i-zer 94-6475 is a complete weight distribution and sway control system in a single unit -- no separate sway bar required. Its patented 4-point sway control design limits side-to-side trailer movement at the source, giving you a safer, more confident tow on highways, crosswinds, and uneven terrain. Rated for up to 400 lb tongue weight and 4,000 lb gross towing weight, this kit includes everything you need to get rolling except a hitch ball and tools.

One Hitch Does It All -- Weight Distribution and Sway Control Combined

Traditional towing setups require a separate weight distribution head plus a friction or dual-cam sway control bar bolted alongside. The Equal-i-zer eliminates that complexity. The spring arms engage the trailer frame and redistribute tongue weight back to all four wheels of the tow vehicle while simultaneously bracing against lateral sway from all four connection points -- two on the hitch head and two on the trailer frame brackets.

The result is a level, planted tow vehicle with full steering and braking response restored. Setup requires no drilling or tapping into your trailer frame, and the snap-up lever design lets you unhitch quickly without tools.

4-Point Sway Control

Fitment and Receiver Compatibility

This hitch is designed for a standard 2" x 2" receiver hitch on your tow vehicle. The receiver must be rated at or above the tongue weight and gross towing weight for your specific application. Do not exceed the lower of the two ratings -- either the hitch or the tow vehicle receiver.

Installation Overview

The Equal-i-zer is designed for owner installation without specialized shop equipment. Key steps include:

  • Insert shank into receiver and torque to spec
  • Mount sway control brackets on trailer frame 27"--32" from coupler center -- no drilling required
  • Attach hitch ball to hitch head (ball sold separately)
  • Couple trailer, engage spring arms with snap-up lever

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • Hitch ball is NOT included. Order the correct ball size to match your trailer coupler (typically 2" or 2-5/16") separately.
  • Never exceed 400 lb tongue weight or 4,000 lb gross towing weight with this hitch.
  • Tow vehicle receiver must be rated at or above the tongue weight and GTW for your specific application. Check your vehicle's towing capacity before use.
  • The included shank provides a maximum 3" drop or 7" rise. Confirm this matches your hitch-to-coupler height differential before installing.
  • Sway control brackets must be positioned 27"--32" back from the center of the coupler -- not approximate. Improper placement reduces sway control effectiveness.
  • Maximum trailer frame height for bracket mounting is 6". Taller frames require a different bracket solution.
  • Do not use with a 1-7/8" trailer coupler -- this hitch requires an appropriate rated hitch ball for your coupler diameter.
  • Equal-i-zer recommends re-torquing all fasteners after the first 50 miles of towing.
Weight Distribution: Weight distribution is the ability of a hitch to transfer some of the tongue weight of the trailer from the rear axle of the tow vehicle to the front axle of the tow vehicle, and backward to the trailer axles. Without weight distribution the tow vehicle “teeter-totters” on the rear axle of the tow vehicle, and un-weights the front axle. Proper weight distribution transfers weight back to the front steering axle, forcing it back to the ground. Proper weight distribution also adds performance to the integrated sway control feature of your Equal-i-zer hitch. The Equal-i-zer hitch requires a minimum tongue weight of at least 10% of gross trailer weight. This tongue weight gets distributed, and helps generate the friction needed to reduce trailer sway.

Sway Control: Integrated sway control is a built-in, patent pending feature of your Equal-i-zer hitch. Once the spring arms are tensioned, the sway control is in force. Integrated sway control works through the connection between your spring arms and L-brackets, and between the sockets and hitch head. The Equal-i-zer hitch takes advantage of the steel-on-steel friction generated at these points to help reduce trailer sway. This added friction makes it much more difficult for the trailer to sway side-to-side while its being towed, as is usual when you encounter a gust of wind, or passing semi. When set up well and properly adjusted for your load, the Equal-i-zer can noticeably reduce sway.

Sway Control Hitch

1. Sway Control Brackets:

Rigid trailer attachments work with friction sway control to combat trailer sway. Brackets are height adjustable to control the amount of weight distribution tension on the spring arms.

2. Spring Arms:

The spring arms serve two purposes. When raised onto the sway control brackets they transfer trailer tongue weight evenly to the tow vehicle. They also work with the friction sway control to reduce trailer sway.

3. Downward Pressure:

Downward pressure from trailer tongue increases friction sway control. Trailer hitch ball mounts here.

4. Upward Pressure:

Sway control brackets distribute weight by maintaining upward pressure on spring arms. The amount of pressure on the spring arms is a factor of trailer tongue weight and vehicle suspension. The friction sway control utilizes this pressure to control trailer sway.

5. Friction sway control:

Friction is enhanced by downward pressure from trailer tongue and upward pressure on spring arms. These opposing pressures come together to create an unequaled sway control system.
