GE Appliances 15,000 BTU Heat Pump + Cool GRHS15XAHW -- RV Rooftop Air Conditioner with Heat Pump

The GE GRHS15XAHW delivers 15,000 BTU of rooftop cooling and reverse-cycle heat pump heating in a single unit. Running on R32 refrigerant -- a next-generation refrigerant with 70% lower global warming potential than R410A -- it gives RV owners year-round climate control without burning propane. Heat pump operation is effective down to 25F ambient, making it a practical propane saver for shoulder-season camping. This unit is a direct replacement for the GE ARH15AACW cool-only model. An upgrade kit is required for installation when replacing an older unit.

Cool All Summer. Heat Into Winter. One Rooftop Unit.

Most RV rooftop ACs only cool. The GRHS15XAHW adds a reverse-cycle heat pump, so the same unit that keeps your rig comfortable in July can take the edge off a 35F fall morning without firing your furnace. That means less propane consumption, less noise from the furnace blower, and fewer tank fill-ups on extended trips.

The R32 refrigerant is a modern single-component refrigerant with high energy efficiency and a significantly lower environmental footprint than the R410A used in most RV ACs currently in the field. R32 also has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0).

Heat Pump Down to 25F

Provides electric heat when ambient temps are 25F and above -- no propane required for shoulder-season comfort.

R32 Eco Refrigerant

70% lower global warming potential than R410A. Zero ozone depletion. Efficient single-component charge.

Corrosion-Resistant Housing

Coil coatings and housing materials resist salt air and road chemicals for long-term reliability in all climates.

Quiet Operation

Noise-reducing components and balanced fan assembly minimize cabin intrusion during sleep or stationary work.

Propane Savings for Full-Timers and Shoulder-Season Campers

When outside temps are between 25F and 65F, the heat pump is more efficient than a propane furnace for maintaining comfortable interior temps. Full-timers and snowbird travelers report meaningful reductions in propane consumption by relying on the heat pump during morning warm-ups and cool evenings.

Replaces GE ARH15AACW (Cool-Only)

The GRHS15XAHW is the factory replacement and upgrade path for the GE ARH15AACW 15,000 BTU cool-only rooftop unit. Because the heat pump model uses a different control architecture, an upgrade kit is required when retrofitting into an RV that originally had the ARH15AACW. Verify compatibility with your interior control box and thermostat before ordering.

Upgrade Kit Required for Retrofit Installations

This unit is NOT a plug-and-play swap into all existing GE rooftop AC cutouts without additional components. If you are replacing an ARH15AACW or other older GE rooftop unit, a separate upgrade/conversion kit is required to connect the heat pump controls to your interior unit. Confirm kit availability and part number before purchasing this rooftop assembly alone.

  • Verify your interior air handler and thermostat are compatible with heat pump operation.
  • The standard 14.5 x 14.5 inch roof opening is used -- no cutting required for same-footprint replacements.
  • R32 refrigerant requires EPA Section 608 certified technician for any refrigerant service.

R32 Refrigerant -- What You Need to Know

R32 is a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant classified as A2L (mildly flammable) by ASHRAE. In an intact, properly installed rooftop AC system, the charge is sealed and presents no practical hazard during normal operation. However, any refrigerant service, leak repair, or recharge must be performed by an EPA Section 608 certified technician familiar with A2L refrigerants. Do not attempt to service the refrigerant circuit yourself.

Best Applications

  • Class A, B, and C motorhomes with GE rooftop AC cutouts
  • Fifth wheels and travel trailers with 15K BTU GE-compatible openings
  • Full-timers who want to reduce propane dependency in fall and spring
  • Snowbird travelers operating in mild winter climates (ambient above 25F)
  • Direct replacement for GE ARH15AACW with upgrade kit

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean the return air filter every 30 days during heavy use -- a clogged filter reduces both cooling and heating capacity significantly.
  • Inspect and clean the outdoor coil fins at the start of each season; insects and road debris restrict airflow and cut efficiency.
  • Check roof gasket seal annually to prevent water intrusion around the mounting curb.
  • Do not operate in heat pump mode when ambient temperature is below 25F -- switch to furnace heat to protect the compressor.

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering

  • Upgrade kit is required when replacing a GE ARH15AACW or other cool-only GE rooftop unit. This rooftop assembly alone is not a complete retrofit without the appropriate conversion kit.
  • R32 refrigerant service must be performed by an EPA Section 608 certified technician qualified for A2L refrigerants. Do not attempt to add, remove, or service the refrigerant charge yourself.
  • Do not run in heat pump mode below 25F ambient -- compressor damage may result. Use your RV furnace for heating when temps drop below this threshold.
  • Verify interior air handler and thermostat compatibility before purchase. Not all existing GE interior units support heat pump mode without additional wiring or control board upgrades.
  • A dedicated 15A, 115V AC circuit is required. Shared or undersized wiring may cause tripped breakers or compressor damage.
  • This listing is for the rooftop unit only. Interior air handler, thermostat, and upgrade kit are sold separately unless otherwise noted.
