Camco Type 1 / OPD Excess Flow Protection Camco 59023 Propane Gauge/Leak Detector -- 5 ft Hose, Soft-Nose POL x 1/4" Inverted Male Flare

Know your propane level at a glance and stay protected from line breaks and fire hazards. The Camco 59023 connects any OPD-equipped propane cylinder directly to appliances or distribution tees with a 1/4" inverted female flare inlet -- covering gas grills, RVs, boats, and camp stoves with one compact, safety-rated hose assembly.

A Safer, Smarter Way to Run Propane

Running propane from a portable DOT cylinder to your grill, buddy heater, or RV appliance should be simple -- and safe. The Camco 59023 puts an inline analog pressure gauge between your cylinder and your appliance so you can see at a glance whether propane is still flowing strong or running low, without guessing or hauling the tank to a scale.

Beyond the gauge, this hose assembly includes built-in excess flow protection that automatically restricts flow if a downstream line is severed, and thermal protection that responds to dangerous heat buildup in a fire event. Both safety features are passive -- no buttons, no user action required.

Inline Pressure Gauge

Analog gauge reads propane pressure while gas is flowing, giving you a live indication of how much usable fuel remains in the cylinder.

Excess Flow Protection

Automatically cuts flow if a downstream hose or fitting fails, helping prevent large propane releases from a broken line.

Thermal Protection

Built-in thermal shutoff provides a safety response in fire conditions, limiting additional fuel feed to an active flame event.

Type 1 / OPD Connection

Soft-nose male POL fitting threads onto ACME/OPD valves found on DOT cylinders manufactured after 1995 -- the current standard for portable tanks.

Gauge Behavior -- Read This Before You Use It

The inline pressure gauge on the Camco 59023 is a flow-dependent gauge. It will not show a reading when the cylinder valve is open but no appliance is drawing gas. The gauge only reads while propane is actively flowing. This is normal and expected for this style of gauge -- open your appliance valve first, then check the gauge needle to assess pressure.

OPD Cylinder Compatible -- This hose is designed specifically for the ACME/OPD (Overfill Prevention Device) valve found on virtually all DOT portable propane cylinders made after 1995. Standard 20 lb grill tanks and similar portable cylinders use this valve. It is not intended for older POL-only (non-OPD) tanks without an ACME collar.

Common Applications

  • RV camping -- connecting a portable cylinder to an external quick-connect or appliance inlet
  • Propane gas grills with 1/4" inverted female flare inlets
  • Boats and marine applications with portable propane setups
  • Camp stoves, buddy heaters, and portable propane appliances
  • Use upstream of a Camco 4-port propane tee (Camco #59035) to distribute to multiple devices
Pairing Tip: The 1/4" inverted male flare output on this hose connects directly to Camco's 4-port propane distribution tee (part #59035). Run one cylinder through this gauge hose into the tee to power multiple appliances simultaneously while monitoring pressure from a single gauge.

Connection and Thread Details

The cylinder end uses a soft-nose male POL fitting. Soft-nose POL fittings do not require a separate internal valve to seal -- the fitting itself compresses against the cylinder valve seat when hand-tightened. No tools or thread sealant are needed at the cylinder connection. The appliance end terminates in a 1/4" inverted male flare (also written as 1/4" IMF), which mates to any device with a standard 1/4" inverted female flare inlet -- the most common thread standard on gas grills and portable propane appliances in North America.

Leak Check Required: After every connection or reconnection, apply soapy water or approved gas leak detector solution to all fittings before lighting any appliance. Bubbles indicate a leak. Do not use an open flame to check for gas leaks.
Maintenance Note: Inspect the hose body for cracks, abrasion, or brittleness before each use. Replace the hose assembly if any damage is found. Store coiled loosely, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to extend hose life.

Important Information -- Read Before Use
  • This hose is compatible ONLY with OPD/ACME-valve cylinders (DOT portable cylinders manufactured after 1995). It will not connect correctly to older cylinders without the ACME collar.
  • The pressure gauge reads ONLY while propane is actively flowing. A zero reading with the valve open but no appliance running is normal -- not a defect.
  • Always perform a leak check with soapy water or approved leak detector fluid after connecting. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Excess flow protection may prevent gas flow if the downstream appliance valve is already open when you open the cylinder valve. Close all appliance valves first, open the cylinder valve slowly, then open the appliance valve.
  • Inspect the hose for cracks, cuts, or deterioration before every use. A damaged hose must be replaced before use.
  • Do not use indoors or in enclosed spaces without proper ventilation. Propane is heavier than air and will accumulate at floor level.
  • Limited 90-day warranty from Camco. Warranty does not cover misuse, damage from improper storage, or use with incompatible fittings.
