Girard by Lippert OEM Replacement Made in the USA Lippert Girard 2GWH-29 Heat Exchanger Assembly -- GSWH-2 Tankless Water Heater

When your Girard GSWH-2 tankless water heater stops delivering consistent hot water, a failed or degraded heat exchanger is often the culprit. This is the genuine OEM replacement heat exchanger assembly (part number 2GWH-29, SKU 11-9178) -- engineered to restore full heating performance, efficiency, and reliable hot water delivery to your RV's on-demand system.

Restore Your GSWH-2 to Factory Performance

The heat exchanger is the core of any tankless water heater -- it is where combustion heat transfers directly into your water supply. Over time, mineral scale buildup, corrosion, or physical damage from freezing can degrade heat transfer efficiency or cause leaks. Replacing the exchanger with a correct OEM assembly brings the heater back to factory spec without replacing the entire unit.

This assembly is manufactured to meet the same tolerances as the original component installed at the factory. It fits the Girard by Lippert GSWH-2 tankless water heater -- the propane-fired, on-demand unit commonly found in Class A, Class C, fifth wheels, and luxury travel trailers. If your unit is the GSWH-2 (not the GSWH-1 or later GSWH-3 variant), this is your part.

OEM-Fit Replacement

Manufactured to Girard by Lippert OEM specifications for the GSWH-2 series. Direct drop-in -- no modification required.

Made in the USA

Produced domestically to OEM quality standards, ensuring material consistency and dimensional accuracy.

Restores Hot Water Efficiency

Corrects loss of heating output, inconsistent water temperature, and extended heat-up times caused by a degraded exchanger.

Extra Transit Protection

Heat exchangers are fragile in shipping. We inspect every unit and add protective packaging beyond the manufacturer's standard box before it leaves our warehouse.

What the Heat Exchanger Does

In the GSWH-2, propane combustion gases pass through or around a coiled water tube. The heat exchanger assembly contains these water passages and the surrounding thermal transfer structure. Water enters cold, absorbs heat as it flows through, and exits at the set temperature -- all on demand, with no tank to maintain. A cracked, scaled, or corroded exchanger directly reduces this heat transfer and can allow combustion gases or water to leak internally.

Correct Part for the GSWH-2: The Girard product line includes multiple tankless heater models (GSWH-1, GSWH-2, GSWH-3). This assembly -- part 2GWH-29 -- is specific to the GSWH-2. Verify your model number on the heater's data label before ordering. The model number is typically on a sticker visible from the exterior access panel.

Common Symptoms of a Failed Heat Exchanger

  • Hot water output is noticeably weaker or cooler than normal
  • Heater ignites but water never reaches set temperature
  • Visible water dripping from the heater cabinet or burner area
  • Error codes related to overheating or thermal cutout triggering repeatedly
  • Discolored or rusty water at the hot water outlets
  • Mineral scale visible on connections after removal of the old exchanger

Installation Notes

Replacement requires removing the GSWH-2 from its exterior compartment and disconnecting the water inlet/outlet fittings and propane supply line. The heat exchanger mounts within the heater chassis and connects to the burner assembly. Shut off propane at the tank and depressurize the water system before beginning work. Use thread sealant rated for potable water on all water-side connections.

Heads Up: This assembly is for the water-side heat exchanger only. The burner assembly, igniter, gas valve, and control board are separate components. If your heater shows ignition or gas valve faults, inspect those components independently. Replacement of the heat exchanger will not resolve electronic control failures.
Maintenance Tip: Hard water accelerates scale buildup inside the heat exchanger. If you frequently camp in areas with high mineral content water, consider flushing your tankless heater annually with an RV-approved descaler solution. This extends exchanger life significantly.
Shipping Note: Heat exchanger assemblies are prone to damage when shipped in standard manufacturer packaging. Every unit we ship is individually inspected and repacked with additional protective material before leaving our warehouse.

Important Information
  • This part is designed exclusively for the Girard by Lippert GSWH-2 tankless water heater. Confirm your model number before ordering -- it is not interchangeable with GSWH-1 or GSWH-3 assemblies.
  • Always shut off the propane supply at the tank and fully depressurize the water system before removing or installing any heater components.
  • Propane appliance service should be performed by a qualified technician. Improper installation can result in gas leaks, fire, or water damage.
  • Apply potable-water-rated thread sealant to all water-side fittings. Do not use pipe dope not rated for drinking water systems.
  • This assembly does not include electronic components. If your heater displays control board or gas valve error codes, those components must be diagnosed and replaced separately.
  • Heat exchangers damaged by freezing are not covered under typical warranty. Winterize your RV water system before temperatures drop below 32 deg F.
