Automatic RV entry steps that extend the moment you open your door and retract when you close it -- no manual deployment, no forgotten steps left out overnight. Built from heavy-gauge steel with a black powder-coat finish and solid 3/4" steel drive rods, the Series 40 is engineered for long-term daily use on Class A, B, and C motorhomes and fifth wheels.
The Kwikee Series 40 connects to your door switch so the steps deploy automatically when the door opens and stow automatically when it closes. A built-in obstacle detection feature stops the motor immediately if the steps strike an object during retraction, protecting passengers, pets, and the step mechanism itself.
A hidden amber courtesy light activates when the steps deploy, illuminating the tread area so you can safely board after dark. Non-skid tread surfaces and a reflective yellow safety strip provide additional visibility and grip in wet or low-light conditions.
Steps extend when the door opens and retract when it closes -- no switches to flip, no steps left out while driving.
Motor shuts off automatically if the steps encounter resistance during retraction, preventing damage and injury.
Integrated incandescent light (C193 bulb) illuminates the tread area when deployed for safe nighttime boarding.
Heavy-gauge steel frame with black powder-coat finish, 3/4" solid steel drive rods, and stainless steel bushings for corrosion resistance and long service life.
Lippert designed the Series 40 for the physical demands of full-time and frequent RV use. Air-pressed rivet fasteners at every joint eliminate weld fatigue and allow smooth, rattle-free operation across thousands of cycles. Stainless steel bushings at all pivot points reduce wear and keep the mechanism moving freely even after years of exposure to road grime, water, and temperature extremes.
Weatherproof wiring harnesses and sealed connectors are used throughout the system to resist shorts and corrosion -- a common failure point on lesser step assemblies exposed to road spray and moisture.
The Series 40 uses a two-wire color-coded harness for straightforward installation. The 12 AWG green wire carries the main motor power circuit; the 16 AWG purple wire handles the door switch signal. Both circuits are managed by the included logic control unit, which also handles obstacle detection cutoff.
The Series 40 mounts via a steel mounting plate (25-3/4" wide x 14-3/4" deep) to a standard bolt pattern of 26" wide x 8" deep. The step drops 8" from the mounting plate centerline, which accommodates a typical entry height of 17-3/8". Confirm your RV's existing rough opening and bolt pattern before ordering -- many Class A and C coaches with existing Kwikee step hardware will match this pattern directly.
