Suburban LP-R524V Two-Stage Propane Regulator, Vertical Vent, Shut-Off Valve, 1/4" FPT Inlet x 3/8" FPT Outlet, 160K BTU

Two-stage RV propane regulator with vertical vent orientation and integrated shut-off valve. First stage reduces cylinder pressure to 10 psi; second stage delivers stable 11" WC outlet pressure. 160,000 BTU/hr. Excess flow and overpressure protection. UL listed. Approved for RV use. RVIA vent covers included.

About the Suburban LP-R524V

The Suburban LP-R524V is a two-stage RV propane regulator with a vertical vent orientation and integrated manual shut-off valve — the regulator that sits between the propane tank and the RV's appliance supply line, reducing the high and variable pressure of the tank to a stable, usable 11" water column that all standard RV propane appliances require.

The two-stage design is standard for RV applications: the first stage drops the cylinder's variable tank pressure (which can range from 100+ psi down to near 0 as the tank empties) to an intermediate 10 psi, and the second stage then steps that down further to the final 11" WC delivery pressure. This two-step process delivers much more consistent pressure to appliances across the full range of tank fill levels and ambient temperatures compared to a single-stage regulator.

Safety features include an excess flow device that limits gas flow if a downstream hose ruptures or disconnects accidentally, and an overpressure protection device that shuts off gas flow in case of regulator malfunction — limiting environmental propane release to less than 2 psi. UL listed. Built to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards by Suburban Manufacturing, a leading OEM supplier to the RV industry. RVIA-required plastic vent covers are included.

Key Features

  • Two-Stage Regulation: Stage 1 reduces tank pressure to 10 psi; Stage 2 delivers stable 11" WC to appliances
  • Vertical Vent Orientation: Vent faces up — use when mounting the regulator in a vertical position
  • Integrated Manual Shut-Off Valve: Close the gas supply at the regulator without going to the tank
  • Excess Flow Device: Limits gas flow automatically if downstream hose ruptures or disconnects
  • Overpressure Protection: Shuts off gas if regulator malfunctions — limits release to less than 2 psi
  • 160,000 BTU/hr Capacity: Sufficient for most single-tank RV propane systems
  • 1/4" Female NPT Inlet x 3/8" Female NPT Outlet
  • UL Listed
  • Approved for RV Use
  • ISO 9001:2015 Manufacturing Quality Standard
  • RVIA Plastic Vent Covers Included

📋 Vertical vs. Horizontal Vent — Which Do You Need?

The vent orientation determines which direction the regulator's vent faces — and must be matched to the mounting position:

LP-R524V — Vertical vent (this item): Vent faces up. Use when the regulator is mounted so the vent points skyward. A vertical-mount regulator with a horizontal vent can allow water to enter the vent and freeze or damage the diaphragm.

LP-R524H — Horizontal vent: Vent faces to the side. Use when the regulator is mounted in the standard horizontal orientation.

When in doubt, check how your existing regulator is oriented and match the vent direction. Using the wrong vent orientation in a wet climate can cause premature regulator failure.

⚠️ Propane Regulators Must Be Installed Correctly

Propane regulator installation on an RV is a safety-critical task. Confirm the inlet and outlet connection sizes (1/4" FPT inlet, 3/8" FPT outlet) match your system before ordering. If replacing an existing regulator, note the vent orientation on the old unit and order the matching version (V for vertical, H for horizontal). Leak-test all connections with approved leak detection solution after installation — never with an open flame.
