LippertPart 3017021-Year WarrantyLippert 301702 Control Module for Electric Coach Step

When your Lippert electric coach step stops responding, the control module is often the culprit. This direct-replacement module restores full operation to single, double, or triple electric Lippert coach steps and Stromberg Carlson sliding steps -- no rewiring required.

Restore Your Electric Steps with the Right Control Module

The Lippert 301702 control module is the brain behind your electric coach step system. It houses all the circuits and electrical components necessary to sequence step deployment and retraction, manage door-trigger signals, and protect the motor from fault conditions. If your steps no longer extend or retract on command -- or operate erratically -- this module is the first component to diagnose.

This module is a factory-matched replacement for Lippert electric coach steps and Stromberg Carlson sliding steps. It mounts under the base of the step assembly using four self-tapping screws, tucking neatly out of view and connecting directly to the existing wiring harness via weatherproof connectors.

Broad Compatibility

Works with single, double, and triple electric Lippert coach steps and Stromberg Carlson sliding steps -- one module covers multiple step configurations.

Weatherproof Design

Wiring and connectors are weatherproofed to resist moisture, road debris, and the harsh undercarriage environment typical of coach step mounting locations.

Complete Circuitry

All necessary circuits and electrical components are pre-installed. No component-level soldering or bench repair needed -- swap the module and go.

Simple Mounting

Installs under the step base with four self-tapping screws. Mounting hole pattern is fixed so alignment is straightforward on compatible step assemblies.

What This Module Does

The control module receives a signal from the coach door switch (or manual override) and drives the step motor to extend or retract the steps. It also monitors for fault conditions that could stall or damage the motor. A failed module typically presents as steps that are completely unresponsive, steps that extend but will not retract (or vice versa), or steps that move erratically. Replacing the module is a common first repair before condemning the motor or harness.

Compatible Step Systems: This module is confirmed for use with Lippert single, double, and triple electric coach steps and Stromberg Carlson sliding steps. If you are unsure which control module your specific step assembly requires, match the part number 301702 (LIP301702) to your existing module label before ordering.

Installation Overview

The module mounts on the underside of the step base frame. Use the fixed mounting hole pattern (5-1/4 in. center-to-center on the long axis, 3-1/8 in. center-to-center on the short axis) to position the module. Four self-tapping screws secure it in place. Plug the existing wiring harness connectors into the module -- the weatherproof connectors are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion.

Note: Self-tapping screws are NOT included with this module. Have appropriate sheet-metal screws on hand before beginning installation.
Heads Up: Disconnect the coach battery (or at minimum the step fuse) before removing the old module or connecting the new one. The step motor circuit is live whenever the ignition is on or the door is open on many coach configurations.

Diagnosing Before You Replace

Before ordering, confirm the module is the failed component:

  • Check the step fuse and inline fuse (if present) -- a blown fuse mimics a dead module.
  • Verify 12V power is reaching the module harness connector with a test light or multimeter.
  • Inspect the door switch and its wiring for opens or corrosion -- a failed switch looks like a dead module.
  • If power is present, the door switch tests good, and steps still do not move, the module is the likely cause.
Maintenance Tip: After installation, apply dielectric grease to all harness connector pins to prevent future corrosion. This is especially important in high-humidity climates or if the step bay sees regular road spray.
Related Components: If the module tests good but steps still fail, consider inspecting the step motor and door trigger switch -- both are available separately for Lippert coach step systems.
