Suburban Mfg 523006 -- 15-Inch Propane Pigtail Hose, Type 1 ACME Nut x 1/4" MPT

A short, flexible LP connector hose built to link your propane cylinder to a two-stage regulator safely. Thermal protection, left-hand ACME threading, and UL/CGA listing mean this is a code-compliant, ready-to-install solution for RV propane systems.

Safe, Reliable LP Tank-to-Regulator Connection

The Suburban Mfg 523006 is a 15-inch propane pigtail hose engineered to connect a DOT portable propane cylinder to a two-stage regulator in RV propane systems. The Type 1 (QCC1) ACME nut on the tank end threads left-hand onto the standard POL-style or ACME valve found on most 20- to 100-pound LP cylinders. The 1/4" male pipe thread (MPT) on the regulator end provides a secure, leak-testable connection to the inlet port of a standard two-stage or dual-stage regulator.

With a 1/4" inside diameter and thermal protection built into the hose assembly, the 523006 is designed for day-to-day RV use as well as extended full-timer setups where reliability and safety compliance matter. The hose is flexible enough to route cleanly in typical propane compartments without kinking.

Type 1 ACME Nut

Left-hand QCC1 ACME nut fits standard DOT propane cylinder valves on 20- to 100-lb tanks. No adapter needed for most RV LP cylinders.

1/4" MPT Outlet

Male pipe thread outlet connects directly to the inlet of most two-stage and dual-stage propane regulators used in RV applications.

Thermal Protection

Integrated thermal protection on the hose assembly provides a safety shutoff response in the event of fire or extreme heat exposure -- a key safety feature for enclosed propane compartments.

UL / CGA Listed

Approved to Underwriters Laboratories and Compressed Gas Association standards. Meets code requirements for LP gas connector hoses in recreational vehicle installations.

Where This Hose Is Used

The 523006 is the standard pigtail connector used in Suburban-equipped RV propane systems -- travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and truck campers with dual-cylinder LP setups. It is commonly used on the primary or secondary cylinder port feeding a dual-stage automatic-changeover regulator or a fixed two-stage regulator mounted between the cylinders and the coach.

  • Replacing a worn, cracked, or corroded factory LP pigtail hose
  • Completing a two-cylinder LP manifold installation
  • Connecting a single portable 20-lb cylinder to a coach regulator during short trips or boondocking setups
  • Suburban furnace and water heater propane system service

Thread Compatibility Details

The Type 1 ACME (QCC1) fitting is the current standard for propane cylinders sold in the US and Canada. It replaced the older POL (left-hand acme plug) fitting on newer tanks. The ACME nut hand-tightens onto the cylinder valve -- no wrench required on the tank end. The 1/4" MPT outlet requires a wrench and PTFE tape or approved pipe thread sealant for a leak-free joint at the regulator inlet.

If your regulator inlet is 3/8" MPT or uses a different thread standard, an appropriate brass adapter fitting will be needed (not included).

Leak-Test Before Every Use

After installation or any disconnect/reconnect, apply soapy water to all connections and open the cylinder valve slowly. Bubbles indicate a leak. Do not use an open flame to check for gas leaks. Ensure all fittings are fully hand-tight (ACME end) and wrench-tight (MPT end) before pressurizing the system.

Maintenance and Inspection Tips

  • Inspect the hose visually before each season -- look for cracks, abrasion, or stiffness in the rubber body.
  • Replace any pigtail hose that shows signs of weathering, cracking, or has been exposed to heat or flame, even if it holds pressure.
  • LP hoses have a finite service life. Most industry guidance recommends replacement every 5-10 years regardless of visible condition.
  • Store with gentle bends -- do not coil tightly or allow the hose to kink in the propane compartment.
  • Keep the ACME nut and MPT threads clean and free of dirt or debris before connecting.

Not IncludedTwo-stage regulator, propane cylinder, pipe thread sealant, adapters

Typical Applications

Primary UseConnecting LP cylinder to two-stage propane regulator in RV propane systems
Vehicle TypesTravel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, truck campers
System TypeSingle or dual-cylinder RV LP propane supply

Important Information

  • The two-stage regulator is not included -- this hose is the connector only.
  • This hose is designed for propane (LP gas) vapor service only -- do not use with natural gas, oxygen, or other gases.
  • The Type 1 ACME nut is hand-tightened to the cylinder valve -- do not use tools on the ACME nut, which can damage the valve seat.
  • The 1/4" MPT end must be sealed with approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for LP gas service before connecting to the regulator.
  • Leak-test all connections with soapy water every time the hose is connected or reconnected.
  • Do not use this hose if it shows any signs of cracking, abrasion, kinking, or heat damage -- replace immediately.
  • Install and use in compliance with NFPA 58 and all applicable local codes for LP gas installations.
  • Keep away from open flame and heat sources. Thermal protection does not make this hose fireproof -- it provides a safety shutoff response under extreme conditions.
