MB Sturgis 350 PSI Max UL569 / ANSI Z21.81 Certified MB Sturgis 06-1374 POL x 1/4 In. Inverted Flare LP Pigtail Hose -- 48 Inches

When your RV runs a dual-cylinder LP setup and appliance demand starts triggering regulator bypass, a POL pigtail is the right fix. This MB Sturgis pigtail connects directly to the tank valve using a POL (Prest-O-Lite) left-hand thread fitting -- which flows significantly more gas than a Type 1 (QCC) connection -- and terminates at a 1/4 in. male inverted flare for attachment to your two-stage regulator inlet. Built to handle up to 500,000 BTU per hour and 350 PSI, it meets the demand of high-draw RV appliances including furnaces, cooktops, water heaters, and refrigerators running simultaneously.

Higher Flow Where It Counts -- POL Connections for Serious LP Demand

Type 1 (QCC) fittings are common on modern propane tanks, but their built-in excess flow valves can restrict gas delivery when multiple high-demand appliances run at once. The POL connection on this MB Sturgis pigtail bypasses that limitation, delivering a full 500,000 BTU/hr of capacity to keep your two-stage regulator supplied under load.

The 1/4 in. male inverted flare outlet connects to the matching female inverted flare inlet found on most dual-stage RV LP regulators. At 48 inches, the hose gives enough reach to comfortably span from a standard ASME or DOT cylinder to a remotely mounted regulator without stressing the fittings.

POL Tank Connection with Excess Flow

Left-hand threaded POL fitting seats directly on the tank valve and includes an integral excess flow device for added safety at the cylinder.

500,000 BTU/hr Capacity

Substantially higher flow potential than Type 1 QCC connections -- critical for dual-cylinder systems feeding multiple appliances simultaneously.

Thermoplastic Hose Construction

1/4 in. ID thermoplastic hose resists weathering and remains flexible across the full rated temperature range of -40 F to 140 F.

UL569 and ANSI Z21.81 Certified

Meets the industry certifications required for LP gas hose assemblies used in RV and portable appliance applications.

When to Use a POL Pigtail Instead of Type 1

If your RV experiences nuisance regulator bypass -- where the second-stage regulator briefly locks out as if the cylinder is empty, even with a full tank -- the root cause is often inadequate upstream flow. The Type 1 QCC excess flow valve inside the tank fitting can trip during peak demand. Switching to a POL connection eliminates that restriction and allows the full cylinder pressure to reach the two-stage regulator unimpeded.

POL pigtails are also the traditional standard for ASME (permanently mounted) tanks and older DOT cylinders that predate the QCC standard. If your rig or tow vehicle uses a fixed ASME tank, this is the correct fitting.

Correct for Dual-Cylinder Systems: This pigtail is designed to be used in pairs -- one on each cylinder -- feeding into an automatic changeover or two-stage regulator. Each cylinder gets its own POL pigtail, which then connects to the regulator's dual inlets.

Hose Material and Temperature Performance

The thermoplastic hose body is rated from -40 F to 140 F, covering everything from winter camping in cold climates to storage in sun-baked compartments in the Southwest. The hose ID of 1/4 in. is sized to support the full rated flow at normal cylinder pressures without a significant pressure drop across the hose length.

For LP Gas Use Only: This hose assembly is certified and rated for liquid petroleum (LP/propane) gas service only. Do not use with natural gas, compressed air, or any other medium.

Installation Overview

  • Hand-tighten the POL fitting onto the cylinder valve -- POL fittings use left-hand thread, so turn counterclockwise (from the fitting side) to tighten.
  • Use a wrench to snug the POL nut -- do not over-torque. POL connections seal on an internal taper; no thread tape or sealant is used.
  • Connect the 1/4 in. male inverted flare to the mating female inverted flare port on your two-stage regulator and tighten with a flare nut wrench.
  • Open the cylinder valve slowly and check all connections with an approved LP leak detection solution before placing the system into service.
  • Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
Maintenance Tip: Inspect the thermoplastic hose annually for cracks, abrasion, or UV degradation. Replace immediately if any damage is found. MB Sturgis recommends replacing LP hose assemblies every 5 to 10 years regardless of visible condition, or per the date code stamped on the hose.

Important Information -- Read Before Installing
  • This hose assembly is rated for LP (propane) gas service ONLY. Do not use with natural gas, compressed air, oxygen, or any other medium.
  • Maximum rated pressure is 350 PSI. Do not use in any system exceeding this pressure.
  • POL fittings use left-hand thread -- tighten by turning counterclockwise from the user's perspective. No thread sealant or tape is used on POL connections.
  • Always perform a leak test with an approved liquid leak detector after installation and before lighting any appliances.
  • Inspect the hose for cracks, cuts, abrasion, or brittleness before each use. Replace immediately if damage is found.
  • Keep hose away from open flames, excessive heat sources, and sharp edges that could cause chafing.
  • This product is sold individually. Two pigtails are typically required for a standard dual-cylinder RV setup -- order accordingly.
  • Installation should comply with NFPA 58 (LP Gas Code) and all applicable local codes. If you are unsure of your system requirements, consult a qualified LP gas technician.
