Equal-i-zer's 4-point sway control hitches use a specific shank/ball interface to transfer both vertical load and lateral sway forces predictably. Using a non-spec ball can affect how the head seats and how the spring arms tension. This ball eliminates that variable -- it's what the hitch was designed around.
