50 amp portable RV surge protector kit with separate pedestal receptacle tester and cord-mounted surge module. Tests common wiring faults before hookup and provides surge protection for 50 amp RV shore power systems.
The Progressive Industries PSK-50 is a portable 50 amp RV surge protector kit designed to help protect RV electrical systems from damaging power surges and common campground pedestal wiring faults. The kit uses two separate components: a receptacle tester for checking the pedestal before connecting the RV, and a surge module that attaches to the RV’s detachable shore power cord.
This setup lets RV owners test the campground power source first, then connect the surge module for ongoing surge protection while plugged into compatible 50 amp RV service. It is a practical option for owners who want portable protection without installing a hardwired surge protector inside the RV.
Designed for 50 amp RV shore power systems
Tests campground receptacle wiring before connecting the RV
Provides 45,000A max spike and 2,030 joules surge protection
No hardwired installation required; useful for campsite-to-campsite travel
The Progressive Industries PSK-50 is commonly used with motorhomes, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and larger travel trailers equipped with 50 amp detachable shore power cords. It is useful for testing campground pedestals before hookup and adding portable surge protection during campsite stays. For automatic shutoff protection against high/low voltage, open neutral, frequency faults, and other EMS-level conditions, consider a full Progressive Industries EMS model instead.
• One 50 amp pedestal receptacle tester • One 50 amp surge protection module • Instructions/documentation as supplied by manufacturer
Use the receptacle tester to check the campground pedestal before connecting the RV. If the tester indicates a wiring fault, do not connect the RV until the pedestal has been inspected or corrected. After confirming the pedestal wiring, attach the surge module to the RV’s detachable power cord to add surge protection while connected to shore power.
The PSK-50 provides surge protection and fault testing, but it should not be confused with a full RV electrical management system. EMS models typically add automatic power cutoff for conditions such as high/low voltage, open neutral, frequency faults, and other sustained power problems. If the kit indicates a fault, disconnect from the pedestal and have the power source inspected before use.
The Progressive Industries PSK-50 is a 50 amp portable RV surge protector kit with a separate receptacle tester and surge module. It tests common pedestal wiring faults and provides 45,000A max spike / 2,030 joules of surge protection, but it is not the same as a full EMS with automatic high/low voltage shutdown.
