Camco 2 GPM / 8,000-Gal Capacity KDF + Coconut Shell Carbon Camco HL-180 In-Line Exterior RV Water Filter -- G2627

Connect it between two standard garden hoses and immediately start filtering your RV's entire water supply. The HL-180 uses bacteriostatic KDF media paired with acid-washed coconut shell carbon to tackle chlorine, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, bacteria, VOCs, lime scale, taste, and odor -- no tools, no plumbing modifications, no hassle.

Clean Water at Every Campsite, Without the Guesswork

Campground and municipal water quality varies wildly. One site may smell of chlorine; the next carries a sulfur bite or rust-colored tinge. The Camco HL-180 sits between your supply hose and your RV's inlet valve, filtering water before it enters your fresh tank, lines, and faucets. You get consistent, better-tasting water whether you're at a full-hookup resort or a rural county fairground.

The dual-media design is the key. Acid-washed coconut shell carbon is one of the most effective natural adsorbents for chlorine, VOCs, and taste compounds. The bacteriostatic KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) layer adds a heavy-metal and bacteria-reduction stage that plain carbon filters skip. Together they address a broader spectrum of contaminants than single-media inline filters at a comparable size.

Dual-Stage Media

Acid-washed coconut shell carbon plus bacteriostatic KDF media reduce chlorine, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, bacteria, VOCs, lime scale, taste, and odor in one pass.

Garden Hose Ready

Standard 3/4-inch GHT male/female fittings on each end. Installs in seconds between two standard RV drinking-water hoses -- no adapters needed for most setups.

Whole-Coach Filtration

Placed at the water inlet, every faucet, shower, and appliance in the RV receives filtered water -- not just a single drinking tap.

Annual Replacement Cycle

Rated for up to 8,000 gallons or approximately one year of normal campground use. Disposable design -- no cartridge swaps, just replace the whole unit.

What the HL-180 Filters

The combined KDF and carbon media address the contaminants most commonly found at campgrounds and RV parks:

  • Chlorine and chloramines -- primary disinfectants in municipal water that leave a chemical taste and odor
  • Heavy metals -- including lead, mercury, and copper that can leach from aging park infrastructure
  • Hydrogen sulfide -- the rotten-egg smell common in well-fed campground systems
  • Bacteria -- bacteriostatic KDF inhibits bacterial growth within the filter media
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) -- industrial and agricultural chemical traces
  • Lime and scale -- mineral buildup that affects taste and can coat appliances over time
  • Taste and odor compounds -- general off-flavors from aging distribution lines

Filtration is rated down to 5 microns, catching fine sediment and particulates that can cloud water or clog downstream fixtures.

5-Micron Sediment Stage: The HL-180 filters particulates down to 5 microns -- fine enough to remove most visible sediment, rust, and fine grit that appear at rural hookups or older campground water systems.

Installation and Use

Setup is straightforward:

  • Connect your drinking-water hose from the campground spigot to the inlet end of the HL-180 (female GHT end).
  • Connect a second hose from the outlet end of the filter to your RV's city water inlet.
  • Turn on the water. No priming, no soaking, no startup procedure required.
  • Store the filter in a dry location when not in use or when traveling -- the canister is not designed for freeze exposure.
Water Pressure Note: The HL-180 operates within a 20-100 PSI range. If your campground water pressure exceeds 60 PSI, use a water pressure regulator upstream of the filter -- this protects both the filter and your RV's plumbing lines. Regulators are sold separately.
Replacement Tip: Replace the HL-180 after approximately 8,000 gallons or one year of use -- whichever comes first. If water flow drops noticeably or taste/odor returns before that point, the media is likely saturated and the unit should be replaced early. Date the filter with a marker when you first install it.

Who This Filter Is For

The HL-180 is well suited for:

  • Full-timers and extended-stay campers who want whole-coach filtration without a complex inline system
  • Weekend warriors who move between campgrounds with variable water quality
  • Boondockers using campground water as a fill source before heading off-grid
  • RV owners whose rigs don't have a built-in filtration system but want better water than raw municipal supply
Temperature Warning: This filter is rated for water temperatures between 35 deg F and 100 deg F. Do not allow the filter to freeze -- water trapped in the canister expands and can crack the housing. Drain and store indoors during freezing conditions.
Pair With a Pressure Regulator: For best results and to protect both the filter and your RV's plumbing, pair the HL-180 with a Camco or compatible 40-60 PSI water pressure regulator. Install the regulator between the campground spigot and the filter inlet.

Important Information -- Read Before Use
  • Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the filter. KDF is bacteriostatic, not a standalone purifier for heavily contaminated sources.
  • Operating pressure must stay between 20 PSI and 100 PSI. Pressures above 100 PSI can damage the canister and cause leaks.
  • Water temperature must remain between 35 deg F and 100 deg F. Freezing will crack the housing and ruin the filter media.
  • Replace after 8,000 gallons or one year of use -- whichever comes first. Continued use beyond rated capacity means unfiltered water passes through.
  • This is a disposable unit. Do not attempt to open, refill, or backwash the canister.
  • Use NSF/ANSI 61-rated hose washers at all connections to maintain a sanitary drinking water system.
  • Limited 90-day manufacturer warranty. Damage from freezing, over-pressure, or improper installation is not covered.
