The SuperSprings SSF-170-40-2 is the SumoSprings Rebel front helper spring kit for Class A motorhomes built on the Ford F53 chassis with a GVWR of 16,000–22,000 lbs. SumoSprings are a patented suspension upgrade manufactured from proprietary closed micro-cellular urethane — a progressive-rate foam material that compresses according to load rather than providing a fixed spring rate. The result is soft engagement under light loads with increasing resistance as weight increases, eliminating the harsh "bump stop" contact that occurs when factory bump stops are overwhelmed on heavy Class A motorhomes.
The SSF-170-40-2 uses the Rebel 2-piece design — each spring attaches at both the top jounce bumper location and the bottom, unlike the single-piece Solo design that only attaches at the bottom. This top-and-bottom connection allows unlimited suspension travel in both compression and extension while keeping the spring positioned correctly throughout the full range of axle movement. No drilling is required — Ford pre-drills mounting locations on the F53 frame for this installation. Maintenance-free: no air lines, no compressors, no leaks.

SumoSprings come in two designs for the F53 front axle: Rebel 2-Piece (SSF-170-40-2 — this item): Connects at both the top jounce bumper location and the bottom. Allows full, unlimited suspension travel in both compression and extension — the spring moves with the axle throughout its entire range. Best for front axle applications where full steering and suspension articulation must be maintained. Solo 1-Piece: Connects at the bottom only — replaces the factory bump stop. Engages only on compression. Simpler installation but limited to compression-side support only. For the F53 front axle, the Rebel 2-piece is SuperSprings' recommended design for best steering stability and ride quality.
The SSF-170-40-2 is for Ford F53 chassis with 16,000–22,000 lb GVWR only. Year 2010 is excluded (not listed as compatible). For 24,000–26,000 lb GVWR F53 motorhomes: Order SSF-173-40-2 instead — the higher-GVWR front spring kit. Confirm your motorhome's GVWR from the door jamb sticker or chassis documentation before ordering. Do not exceed GVWR regardless of spring upgrade.
