Ratchet-tension stabilizer adds firm, grounded support to your hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier while parked. Fits most 2" bike rack shanks. No need to remove the rack. Fold-up legs lock for storage while towing. Compatible with motorhomes, fifth wheels, and travel trailers.
A hitch-mounted bike rack loaded with bikes — or any cargo carrier on a 2" shank — creates a long lever arm hanging off the back of your RV. Every gust of wind, every passing truck, and every shift in body weight inside the RV translates into noticeable rocking and bouncing at the hitch, transmitted right back through the frame. The MORryde SP54-274 X-Brace Bike Rack Stabilizer is built specifically to eliminate that movement while you're parked.
Using a ratchet-tensioning design, the stabilizer creates firm, grounded support between your bike rack shank and the ground, dramatically reducing the side-to-side sway and bounce that loaded hitch racks are prone to. It installs quickly with a strap system and fits most 2" bike rack shanks without requiring you to remove the rack itself. When it's time to travel, the stabilizer's fold-up legs lock into a compact storage position, so it stays out of the way and ready for the next campsite.
Delivers extra lateral, side-to-side stability by creating firm tension between the bike rack shank and the ground
Compatible with the standard 2" shank size used on the majority of hitch-mounted bike racks and cargo carriers
Strap-based installation attaches directly to your existing rack — no need to take the rack off the hitch to install
Legs fold up and lock in place for easy, tidy storage when not in use or while towing down the road
Before ordering, confirm the following: 1. Shank size: The SP54-274 fits most 2" bike rack shanks. If your bike rack uses a 1.25" shank or another non-standard size, confirm compatibility before ordering, as the stabilizer's strap system is sized for the 2" shank. 2. RV type: Compatible with motorhomes, fifth wheels, and travel trailers. Confirm your hitch and rack setup provides adequate clearance for the stabilizer's fold-down legs to reach the ground. 3. Ground clearance: Like other MORryde stabilizers, this product is designed to add stability while parked — it is not a leveling device and should be deployed after the RV is already leveled and positioned. This is a parking-position stabilizer only — fold the legs and secure the stabilizer before towing.
Setup Steps at Each Campsite: 1. Level and Position Your RV First: Level your RV before deploying the stabilizer — it is not a leveling device 2. Locate the Bike Rack Shank: Identify the 2" shank on your hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier 3. Attach the Stabilizer Straps: Secure the strap system around the bike rack shank without removing the rack from the hitch 4. Deploy the Legs: Unfold the stabilizer legs and extend them to reach the ground 5. Ratchet Tension: Use the ratchet mechanism to tighten the stabilizer to a firm, secure fit 6. Check Stability: Verify the rack no longer sways or bounces before use 7. Before Towing: Release ratchet tension, fold the legs back into their locked storage position, and remove or stow the stabilizer Refer to MORryde's X-Brace Bike Rack Stabilizer Installation Instructions for complete setup guidance.
